President of NYU College Republicans resigns after ‘inappropriate’ comments to media about Barron Trump

Remarks to the media about the president’s youngest son set the stage for a campus resignation and an invitation to join in “shaping the future of our party.”

Despite the spotlight on President Donald Trump and his family, Barron Trump has mostly managed to remain out of the public eye. However, his comings and goings at New York University Stern School of Business were precisely what had the local president of the college Republicans labeling him an “oddity,” preempting her own departure from the leadership.

As part of a piece published in Vanity Fair dubbed, “The Education–and Anointment–of Barron Trump,” Kaya Walker, who served as president of the NYU chapter of the College Republicans of America, opined, “He’s sort of like an oddity on campus.”

“He goes to class, he goes home,” continued the undergrad majoring in International Relations and French who was described by the publication as “mildly bothered by the frenzy around Barron, arguing that he deserved a more normal college experience. She recalled a joking remark from one of her professors that ‘he doesn’t really belong here.'”

Walker’s commentary on the youngest of the GOP leader’s children was not well-received by CRA which issued a statement Monday detailing that she had submitted her resignation.

“We have been made aware of a statement made by the NYU chapter President that does not align with the values and principles upheld by our organization. Though Vanity Fair and The Independent unfairly framed what was said, upon review, we still found it to be inappropriate,” detailed the press release. “The NYU chapter President submitted her resignation last night.”

The statement, which made note of CRA’s early endorsement of Trump prior to the Republican primary, went on, “We are collaborating closely with the NYU chapter to ensure a smooth transition in leadership. Our goal is to reaffirm CRA’s dedication to the ideals of the Republican Party and conservative movement in a manner that reflects honorably upon our organization and its mission.”

Likewise, CRA President Will Donahue expressed, “Barron Trump represents the future of the conservative movement, and we would be honored to have him join College Republicans of America.”

“Strong leadership is built on resilience, courage, and the humility to rise above petty hostility — qualities that Barron has already demonstrated,” he added. “We invite Barron to join us in shaping the future of our party.”

In the months leading up to and following the election, as the young Trump was engaged in his first term at NYU, he was credited with impacting the campaign by advising his father on podcasts to appear on.

Among the myriad interviews, Patrick Bet-David asked the proud father, “Is he good with the ladies in school at NYU? Is he there yet?” to which Trump responded, “No, I’m not sure he’s — I don’t think he’s had a girlfriend yet.”

While Bet-David himself went on to heap high praise on the young man, stating, “The more I spend time with Barron Trump, the more impressed I am with him. Most interesting 18-year-old I’ve met,” a source had told People in December, “He’s at Stern so he’s studying business in some way. He’s a ladies’ man for sure. He’s really popular with the ladies.”

“He’s tall and handsome. A lot of people seem to think he’s pretty attractive — yes, even liberal people like him,” added the source as others told TMZ that much of his socialization is with classmates who he plays games with online.
