President Trump wants Elon Musk to stay ‘as long as possible’, teases ‘horrific’ DOGE discovery

While media reports on Elon Musk “stepping back” from DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) were thoroughly debunked, President Donald J. Trump weighed in to say he would like Musk to stick around “as long as he’d like.”

“Elon is fantastic. He’s a patriot,” Trump told reporters on Thursday, adding that he wants him to stay “as long as possible.”

“I like smart people, and he’s a smart person. I also like him, personally,” Trump said. “We’re in no rush. But there will be a point at which time Elon’s going to have to leave.”

As a “special government employee, there has always been a 130 day timeline which ends on May 30.

On a more ominous note, President Trump let it be known that DOGE found something “horrible” and “incredible” on Thursday, without divulging any details.

“They found something today that is horrible. It is horrible. You will find out very soon. What they found is incredible,” he told reporters.

Trump has praised Musk for doing a “good job” in helping root out waste and fraud, complimenting the first buddy for being “very talented” and “very smart.” He also suggested that he’d consider a different role to keep Musk around, though he understands that Musk has other responsibilities.

“I would. I think Elon’s great,” the president said. “But he also has a company to run, or a number of companies to run.”

In addition to owning the social media platform X, Musk is also CEO of Tesla and Space X. He also owns Neuralink, xAI and The Boring Company.

Vice President J.D. Vance responded to a Politico story claiming Musk was “stepping back” by calling it “fake news.”

“The work of DOGE is not even close to done. The work of Elon is not even close to done,” Vance insisted.

There was plenty of speculation over what DOGE discovered, though a common theme in the responses is that there’s never any accountability in DC so what does it matter?
