House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) allegedly lost it in a closed-door meeting with House Republicans, defiantly telling his detractors on Thursday “Move the f***ing motion!” if they want to boot him.
A number of Republicans in both the House and the Senate want McCarthy to shut down the government over the left’s obscene spending amid disputes over curbing it. McCarthy has reportedly been working with Democrats to pass a stopgap bill that will give him more time to negotiate. Conservative Republicans hate that idea.
“Conservatives were frustrated by two-year spending agreement hatched by McCarthy with President Joe Biden earlier this year and are seeking additional cuts on top of those that have already been agreed to. But the Senate, which is narrowly controlled by the Democrats, as well as Biden have signaled that they will not sign on to such a bill,” Mediaite reported.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) railed from the floor earlier this week, making it clear that Republicans would not play ball.
NEW: A fired up Speaker McCarthy, addressing his conference behind closed doors, made clear to his members he is not afraid of his critics forcing a vote to oust him as speaker, according to three sources in the room.
“Move the fucking motion,” he said, according to the sources.

“Instead of cutting spending to raise the debt limit, you relied on budgetary gimmicks and rescissions so that you ultimately ended up serving as the valet to underwrite Biden’s debt and advance his spending agenda,” Gaetz raged before raising the specter of a motion to vacate the chair (McCarthy).
McCarthy’s reported blow-up on Thursday morning was allegedly aimed at Gaetz and his allies. He told them to “move the f***ing motion,” according to CNN’s Melanie Zanona.
There was actually more context to McCarthy’s quote and Politico’s Olivia Beavers provided it, “If you think you scare me because you want to file a motion to vacate, move the f***ing motion.”

She said that he also contended that whoever replaced him would be making the same exact arguments he was.
McCarthy’s comments follow Gaetz threatening earlier this week to call a motion to vacate if McCarthy does not follow through with a number of spending priorities and votes on bills that his detractors were promised in January.
If by next week I am not seeing action from Kevin McCarthy to come into compliance with the deal he made in January, then I wouldn’t bet against seeing motions to vacate the chair regularly until he is removed. pic.twitter.com/iSWvcUWZUW

Gaetz reportedly snapped back at McCarthy to “Just move the f***ing spending bills.”
“Sounds like [Speaker McCarthy] is having a total normal one — not rattled at all,” Gaetz posted to X. “Truth is Kevin controls his own fate. So instead of emotionally cursing, let’s do this:
Single-subject spending bills
Term limits vote
Balanced budget vote
Release J6 tapes to all
Subpoena Hunter
We must begin immediately. Pull yourself together, Kevin!”

According to NBC News, McCarthy told reporters, “I showed frustration in here because I am frustrated with the [conference] — frustrated with some people in the conference.”
“We had the DOD appropriations bill yesterday, couldn’t put it on the floor,” he said. “I don’t have one complaint by any member of what’s wrong with this bill.”
