Noted historian and commentator Victor Davis Hanson believes that Democrats are set to lose big in next year’s midterm elections and that President Joe Biden himself will face a “grassroots” political backlash from voters who reject his administration’s policies.
“There’s going to be a reckoning,” Hanson told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson.
“I think whether it’s Mexican-American communities on the border or where I live, or soccer moms mad about what’s being taught in schools, it’s not a top-down, woke revolution,” he suggested.
“It’s a grassroots populist revolution. We’re going to see it in the next midterms I think a lot of these institutions are going to rue the positions they’ve taken and the damage they’ve done,” he added.
The historian was responding a Carlson’s question about Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandates that are being increasingly adopted by businesses and institutions, even though there are questions about whether or not it is actually valid.
The host said he believes the mandate will cause major societal disruptions in hospitals, airlines, police and fire departments, and other sectors of society over Americans’ refusal to get the vaccine and who will subsequently lose their jobs.
Hanson agreed, saying that Biden’s order was one of many “unsustainable” policies that his administration has implemented.
“It’s not Tucker Carlson that’s saying this alone,” Hanson said. “It’s Barack Obama who says the border is unsustainable. Or Larry Summers saying the economic agenda won’t work. Or senators on the Democratic side said Afghanistan is a disaster. It’s everybody saying ‘what’s going on? We’ve never seen anything like it.
“Is it incompetence? Accidental? Is it non-compos mentis problems with the president,” he continued. “Or is by design an, anarchy, a chaos, a nihilism…to have an agenda that doesn’t pull on any of its items 50 percent but through the sheer fear of this chaotic, anarchic, ‘We are going to have a new agenda that is socialist, and nobody knows…’”
Continuing, Hanson said, “When they looked to these institutions you mentioned, they look at the military or professional sports or entertainment or Hollywood or Silicon Valley or social media or network news or Wall Street or the corporate boardroom and they say what happened? We don’t recognize it anymore.
“We have been asleep and they have filtered into all these institutions with this agenda we don’t want, and it doesn’t work,” he said.
Other leading conservatives have made similar observations, especially regarding Biden’s vaccine mandate, including author and rising talk show star Candace Owens.
“I don’t think he thought it through,” she told another Fox News personality, Brian Kilmeade, on his radio program this week.
“I think that he thought that with enough pressure and with people fearful to lose their jobs, they would just comply. And I think that now there’s a pending disaster. You’ve got thousands and thousands of nurses across the country are losing their jobs. You’re talking about New York City bringing in the National Guard to help accommodate and to step in,” she continued.
“So it’s a complete and utter collapse. It’s obviously very good for conservatives and I think this is a little bit of temporary pain that we’re all going to feel. Obviously, you know, we’re going to have the supply chain to shut down and we’re going to be dealing with a lot of issues of just short supplies across the country,” Owens continued.
“But for me, not being able to travel as conveniently is definitely worth it to stand up to what’s really become a totalitarian regime and so much federal overreach. And so I think, again, like I said, a little bit of pain. But overall, the big picture, it’s going to be good for conservatives because these moderate Democrats need to see firsthand what we were talking about when we started talking about the radical overreach that the left was after,” she said.
