Replacement theory? ‘The View’ floats names of Dems who could take Biden’s spot after special counsel’s tough report

Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report — and President Biden’s subsequent press conference to address it — were so undeniably disastrous for Democrats that even the ladies of “The View” had to consider other options for the upcoming election.

Co-host Joy Behar did her best to dismiss Hur’s report, insult Republicans, and frame Biden’s disastrous performance as totally understandable, but in the end, the ladies floated the names of Democrats they believed would make a better Democratic presidential nominee.

Co-host Sunny Hostin said the Biden campaign has a “significant” problem heading into the election.

She noted the report’s observation that Biden couldn’t remember when he was vice president and was “hazy” about details surrounding the Afghanistan invasion.

“You already now have people concerned about his age,” Hostin said. “I don’t think people were as concerned about his mental acuity though, and now they are.”

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin said she was “stunned” by both the report and the press conference.

“This was pretty damning,” she said of Hur’s findings. “He had war plans related to Afghanistan sitting in his garage.”

“A lot of this country who is voting feel like they don’t have a good option,” Farah Griffin stated. “Why not the vice president? Why wouldn’t Democrats put up the vice president?”

According to Hostin, it’s because “this country is not ready for a black female president.”

“We couldn’t even elect one of the most qualified white women in this country as president,” she said, referring to Hillary Clinton.

Co-host Ana Navarro was not on board with replacing Biden at this stage in the game.

“Changing candidates in the middle of a race when people have already voted – this is not like changing your underwear!” she argued. “People have already voted! There’s already delegates.”

Hostin, however, thinks there is one Democrat who could defeat Donald Trump in 2024 — the leader of a progressive state that is literally drowning in its own feces, California Governor Gavin Newsom.

“There’s an off-ramp here,” Hostin said, “and one of the off-ramps we need to think about is once all the delegates are received the DNC will be certifying the delegates, right, and the count and Gavin Newsom can be swapped out if Joe Biden decides to step aside. Or another candidate.”

“I think Gavin Newsom can win,” she added.

Griffin thought that was a great idea.

“It can be done,” she said. “I think it’s important that the public knows.”

Behar was concerned that a Newsom nomination would alienate black voters and anger Kamala Harris.

“I don’t think Kamala Harris would be so happy about that and the black community might turn,” Behar said.

If he kept Harris on as his vice president, Hostin argued, it wouldn’t be an issue. But, according to Navarro, “Kamala Harris is never going to betray Joe Biden in that way.”

“The Democratic Party is never going to betray Joe Biden in that way,” she stated.

On X, users reminded the hosts that Democrats can’t have it both ways.

“If you are gonna argue he isnt suffering memory loss,” one user wrote, “then he needs to be indicted.”
