Outgoing Sen. Thom Tillis, the Democrat in Republican clothing from North Carolina, announced this week that he backs an attention-getting scheme launched by another outgoing “Republican,” Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie, to impeach Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.
Of course, Tillis voted to confirm Hegseth to head up the Pentagon before he declared that he “needs to go,” so make sense of that.
Massie, who was soundly defeated in a primary election this year, accused Hegseth of “high crimes and misdemeanors” for obeying Commander in Chief Donald Trump, filing eight articles of impeachment against the Trump official while citing various military operations, such as Iran, Venezuela, and Yemen.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) sent the House into early recess Wednesday, denying Massie a vote on his politically motivated smear. This prompted a reporter to ask Tillis whether he would back the effort.
“When the House comes back, they’re gonna have to take up that matter,” the reporter said. “Would you encourage Republicans to think about voting in favor of those articles of impeachment?”

“I’ll let the House do what the House is gonna do,” the Trump-hating RINO senator replied. “I think I’m pretty well staked out on my assessment of Mr. Hegseth. This is not personal. I mean, people need to realize I worked as a management consultant. I went into companies and identified areas where they needed to improve. We’ve got a management problem here. He needs to go, whether it’s impeachment or the most expedient route — just the president to replace him — would be great.”
Taking his lead from the compromised media’s fixation on conditions aboard the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, Tillis called for Hegseth’s replacement earlier this month, citing his “inept management of the brave men and women who serve our country.” Of course, the alleged “deteriorating conditions” aboard the flagship nuclear-powered aircraft carrier were more media hype than reality.
Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
I think most of us think that Mr Tillis should be one to go.

Why do politicians step up the rhetoric AFTER they announce not running for another term?

This piece of shit said nothing when the last administration was turning the military into a drag show

Translation: Hegseth is firing all my deep state, uniparty buddies that we rely on to keep the status quo by being intentionally inept and ensuring the USA is not dominant anywhere so we can all receive money from China and other places that hate us.

Few things would give me more pleasure than watching @SenThomTillis–and every last one of his traitorous ilk–tarred, feathered, and pelted mercilessly with moldy tomatoes.

Another reason to vote in the midterms. Make sure that the conservative who is running replaces him. We are getting rid of these losers. It’s going to take time, but if we keep this kind of pressure up through the next three or four primary cycles we can get rid of a lot of them,…
