Rudy Giuliani deeply ‘hurt’ when his OWN longtime attorneys sue over alleged unpaid fees

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has just been hit by a lawsuit for nearly $1.4 million filed by his longtime attorneys for fees related to numerous cases that have allegedly not been paid.

Two plaintiffs, the Davidoff Hutcher & Citron LLP law firm and attorney Robert Costello, filed the complaint in Manhattan state court Monday. Giuliani has been friends with Costello since the 1970s when they were both up-and-coming prosecutors in the US Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York.

America’s mayor is deeply hurt over all this according to The New York Times, saying, “I can’t express how personally hurt I am by what Bob Costello has done. It’s a real shame when lawyers do things like this, and all I will say is that their bill is way in excess to anything approaching legitimate fees.”

Costello responded in a text message to CBS News, “How can he take a personal affront when he owes my firm $1.4 million? For almost four years he received bills and never complained (and never paid).”

“He only said they were excessive when we told him we would sue. It’s too late for that frivolous claim as he will find out in court,” Costello asserted. “I’m sorry he took the low road here because he is feeling desperate.”

“Costello represented Giuliani from 2019 until this summer, the suit says. He advised Giuliani on special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol, a criminal probe by federal prosecutors in Manhattan, prosecutor Fani Willis’ investigation into attempts to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia, a Congressional inquiry, attorney disciplinary proceedings that could cost Giuliani his license to practice law, and more than 10 civil lawsuits,” Business Insider’s Jack Newsham and Jacob Shamsian reported on the lawsuit.

The complaint stipulated that Giuliani ran up a legal bill “for fees and expenses that totaled $1,574,196.10,” but “has paid only $214,000 of the total bill leaving a total of $1,360,196.10 outstanding.” His most recent payment was for $10,000 on September 14, 2023. The suit claims the legal services provided were from November 2019 through July 2023.

“The unpaid balance is the latest example of money struggles for the once-popular and affluent attorney. A political action committee that supports former President Donald Trump recently paid $340,000 to a legal records firm that Giuliani owed money to, according to Business Insider. The former president also hosted a fundraiser for Giuliani, which cost $100,000 to attend, at a golf course in New Jersey,” The Gazette noted.

The filing also contends that the retainer agreement Giuliani signed “provides that in the event Plaintiffs commence a legal proceeding in order to recover legal fees and disbursements, Plaintiffs shall be awarded their reasonable costs and attorneys’ fees.” That ostensibly means that if the attorneys win their lawsuit, legal fees and expenses will be tacked onto the total owed them.

Rumors have been circulating for some time that Giuliani was in severe financial trouble. He has not only been involved in former President Trump’s legal issues but has had to handle cases where a former employee accused him of rape and a defamation lawsuit that was filed by two Georgia election workers. The Left is killing him with lawfare.

“That latter case has all but ended except for the matter of how harsh the total damages award will be. Last month the judge issued a brutal order against Giuliani, not only declaring a default judgment against him and a six-figure fine for failure to comply with discovery, but also issuing a warning about further sanctions if he continues to fail to comply with court orders,” Mediaite reported.
