Russian TV suggests dropping bomb on Kyiv so no leaders visit, mad over iconic ‘go f**k yourself!’ warship sinking

The fog of war creates a lot of confusion and sometimes it takes weeks or even months to fully ascertain what occurred, and initial reports that the Russian warship that confronted a small group of Ukrainian soldiers defending Snake Island sank would eventually prove true — just not as soon as was first reported.

And one particular Russian pundit was none too pleased that the warship now rests at the bottom of the sea.

The ship in question, the Moskva, was the recipient of the now-iconic retort, “Russian warship, go f*ck yourself!,” after calling on the Ukrainian forces to surrender. Early reports suggested that the defiant Ukrainians were killed, but it was later learned that they were taken alive. There was a later report that the Moskva came under attack and was sunk, but that too proved not to be the case.

However, fate was determined to have its pound of flesh — or steel in this case — as the damaged ship did sink while being towed in for repair, according to the official Russian state news agency TASS, which tweeted: “The cruiser Moskva sank while being towed in a storm, the Russian Defense Ministry said.”

At this stage of the invasion, it’s safe to say that things haven’t gone as well for Russia as might have been expected, given that the country is looked upon as one of the world’s superpowers. The fighting is practically at a standstill as the much smaller and outmatched Ukrainian forces fight for survival, even though the Russian military is systematically leveling the country town by town.

It’s also safe to suggest that Russian President Vladimir Putin is frustrated by his military’s lack of progress, as are some Russian citizens. Which is where the aforementioned pundit comes into play. In a clip shared by Julia Davis of the Daily Beast, a Russian television panel was discussing the war when an elderly participant went off over the sinking of the Moskva.

“Even the fact there is an attack against our territory is casus belli, an absolute cause for war,” the man said, according to Mediaite. “For real, no fooling around without any, what’s it called? What are we waging right now?”

“Russia’s special military operation,” the host replied.

“The special military operation has ended,” he yelled. “It ended last night when our Motherland was attacked!”

The woman then asked, “Do you mean the flagship Moskva? When you’re talking about war, you mean total mobilization?”

“Stop!” he shot back. “I didn’t want to talk about the warship because there were different stories, but you brought it up. The warship Moskva is an absolute cause for war, one hundred percent. It’s our flagman. There’s nothing to think about. There has to be a response, but what kind? We need to come up with it.”

It’s almost as if the general population is not aware that Russia is already at war.

The host suggested that the conflict “has already turned into what can easily be called World War III” and took note of NATO countries supplying Ukraine with weaponry and some leaders even visiting the war-torn country. The old man screamed, “We should bomb Kyiv! Then they won’t come. That’s what needs to be done. This should never happen, what we are seeing on the screen right now. We have one way of responding. Bomb them once and that’s it.”

The hashtag #Moskva was trending online with plenty of mockery going around, including a barb that the ship had been “promoted” to a submarine … here’s a quick sampling of the responses from Twitter:
