San Francisco dismantles Musk’s new sign

The Democrat-run City of San Francisco wasted little time showing billionaire Elon Musk who’s in charge after the Twitter boss had a new, brightly-lit “X” sign erected above its headquarters to tout the company’s new X logo.

The city charged that the sign violated permit orders after local residents — see liberals — complained that the glaring sign was a nuisance and had it removed a little over 48 hours after it was installed, according to the Daily Mail. Then again, Musk’s stance in favor of free speech had made him persona non grata in perhaps the most liberal city in America.

Turns out, city officials showed up right after the sign was put on on Friday to inform Twitter that it was in violation of the city’s building codes and to request access to the roof to inspect it, the British tabloid reported. A city complaint noted that a Twitter representative told inspectors the sign was a “temporary lighted sign for an event,” but they were back the very next day.

“A building permit is required to make sure the sign is structurally sound and installed safely,” San Francisco Department of Building Inspection spokesman Patrick Hannan said in a statement. “Planning review and approval is also necessary for the installation of this sign.”

Musk said in a tweet Saturday that the landlord was “calling the police about our sign modifications,” adding a clown emoji to express his sentiments about that alleged development.

James Golden, a.k.a. “Bo Snerdley” the late Rush Limbaugh’s longtime producer, put it all into proper perspective when he tweeted, “Let me get this straight. They can act in days to remove a sign. Yet – the homeless and criminals can stay on streets for years on end.”

CBS News happily shared that the “X” had been removed:

The great irony is that downtown San Francisco is in decline as businesses flee, in large part due to rampant retail theft, homelessness, and a raging drug crisis.

As for the streets of San Francisco:

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on Twitter/X:
