A Crimestoppers tip helped police find the victim of a road rage incident that left him crushed between two vehicles on a New York freeway.
“The victim themselves never reported it,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said during a news briefing on Tuesday. “We reached out to the victim, identified him by his license plate … and he is at this time unsure whether or not he wants to pursue criminal charges.”
That victim was described by police as a 66-year-old Asian man, the New York Post reported. He was reportedly involved in the altercation captured on video and shared on social media by former New York City Council candidate Ying Tan.
“This video, showing a senior being bullied on I-95 near exit 2A in the Bronx, has gone viral on Chinese social media,” Tan said.

According to the New York Police Department, the incident occurred on the Cross Bronx Expressway at Jesup Avenue around 9:30 a.m. on March 5.
The driver of a BWM could be seen in the video after he cut off another vehicle and came to a stop on the Cross Bronx Expressway. He then confronted the 66-year-old man in the other vehicle, a minivan.
“The BMW driver threw a punch at the 66-year-old man in his vehicle, the video showed. The 66-year-old man can be seen throwing objects at the BMW driver and his vehicle. The BMW driver briefly returned to his vehicle but then came back to continue arguing and fighting with the 66-year-old man, the video showed,” PIX11 described.
“Eventually, the BMW driver can be seen opening the other driver’s door and tussling with the 66-year-old man,” the PIX11 report continued. “The BMW driver eventually returned to his vehicle. The 66-year-old man then got out and tried to get inside the BMW. At that point, the BWM driver sped off and squished the 66-year-old man between the two vehicles, causing the 66-year-old to fall to the ground, the video showed.”
NYPD Chief Kenny noted that, although the victim may not want to press charges, the district attorney can still do so.
It was unclear from reports what had started the altercation which police say left the elder man with a broken collarbone. No arrests have been made so far.
