School board president says she and her kids received terrifying death threats from Antifa over teacher transparency

A California school board president claims she and her children received death threats from Antifa after her district approved a new policy that would require teachers to inform parents if their child changes their preferred pronouns or identifies as a different gender.

“A lot of things were said, but one thing was very clear – this person was going to kill me, and they said they were going to dismember my body parts, my limbs more specifically,” Chino Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) President Sonja Shaw told “Washington Watch With Tony Perkins” on Monday. “Thank God we have an amazing police department who jumped on it right away.”

As BizPac Review reported, the July 20th board meeting to discuss “a parental notification policy that would require school officials to inform parents within three days if their child has expressed a desire to identify with a different name, use different pronouns, use a bathroom that doesn’t match their biological sex or expressed suicidal intent” got heated when Shaw criticized California State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond, for opposing the policy.

“Tony Thurmond, I appreciate you being here tremendously, but here’s the problem – we are here because of people like you,” Shaw said during the meeting. “In Sacramento, you’re proposing things that hurt children.”

Security approached Thurmond, and he later claimed he was thrown out of the meeting.

But according to the CVUSD, Thurmond was never told to leave.

“In a Tweet published on Superintendent Thurmond’s official Twitter page, Mr. Thurmond claimed that he was ‘forcibly removed from the meeting,'” CVUSD said in a statement. “At no time did President Shaw order his removal from the meeting, but rather requested that he return to his seat.”

The policy ultimately passed with a vote of 4-1 after roughly 80 speakers debated the bill.

That’s when the threatening calls allegedly began, according to Shaw, who said her email inbox was flooded with violent warnings.

“They had written, ‘you’re going to die’ with other inappropriate words, ‘your children are going to die,’ and ‘your animals are going to die,'” Shaw said.

On their website, the school board president said Antifa wrote, “We declare war on Sonja Shaw.”

“They gave my address, they said we know where you sleep and they’ve said things like ‘use all force possible to stop her,'” Shaw stated. “To me, as nerve-wracking as that is because I am a parent, I am a mother, it was devastating because why are we doing this? We are doing this to keep kids safe.”

“And then it just reminded me,” she added, “God reminded me, that these are the people that are after our children.”

“This is something that is way beyond me being able to be bold and courageous,” Shaw said, “and I just have to trust that I’m going to be protected.”

The rattled mom said that her community has “come together” and people have gone so far to offer to “take turns” providing her and her family with security, though she says she hasn’t accepted the offer “yet.”

“We’re taking measures to make sure and ensure my children’s safety,” Shaw said. “Our police department’s doing extra patrol around my house.”

“So yeah,” she said, “it’s just a crazy intense time right now.”
