An annual stunt from a high-profile Democrat rekindled questions of influence from the Chinese Communist Party.
Fond of foisting claims of foreign entanglement on their rivals, namely President Donald Trump and the long-lived Russian collusion hoax, leftists had little to offer in the way of answering for their own cozy relationships. This included Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) who was once more spotted rubbing elbows with a genocide-denying official of the Chinese Communist Party.
“Thrilled to join thousands at the #Brooklyn Lantern Festival Parade! Incredible #Chinese cultural performances–so proud of Chinese Community in New York! It’s time for celebration and friendship!” wrote Chinese Consul General in New York Chen Li on X as he featured an image of himself, other officials and Schumer in his Grand Marshal sash earlier in February.
The pair were again spotted together at the New York City Lunar New Year Parade on Sunday.

“The Chinese Communist Party is actively seeking to weaken America from within. Elected officials shouldn’t share the stage with them; they should be working to defeat Beijing,” Hudson Institute Senior Fellow Michael Sobolik contended to Fox News Digital. “It sends mixed signals when politicians talk about countering the CCP one day then break bread with them the next.”
Last year, Schumer was spotted with New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) and New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) at the Lunar New Year event which had also included Wu Xiaoming, a consular official linked to China’s secret police station in the Big Apple and Chen’s predecessor, Huang Ping, who had likewise publicly denied Beijing’s treatment of the Uyghurs.
Writings from 2021 by Chen were cited by Fox News where the official argued, “It’s hard to imagine how could ‘genocide’ and ‘forced labor’ associated with such a place where population grows steadily, society is safe and open, and people enjoy happy life. Where do the accusations come from?”
“‘Genocide’ was claimed by former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on the very last day of his term,” he continued in his denial of the treatment of the Uyghurs. “It was based on reports fabricated by some extremist anti-China individuals who haven’t been to Xinjiang for years and accounts of a few so-called witnesses who were proved to be trained ‘actors’ and ‘actresses.'”
Like Sobolik, U.S.-China relations expert Gordon C. Chang had recently addressed concern over the communist nation’s growing influence with specific regard for projects in the Caribbean the Trump administration cracked down on their sway over the Panama Canal.
“I think the Chinese are trying to gain influence in a region which is very close to the American homeland,” he’d reportedly told Fox New Digital while referencing the $3.4 billion Freeport Container port project within 100 miles of Florida.
Unlike Schumer, who had led a Senate delegation to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2023 as the CCP called for a two-state solution for Israel, neither Hochul nor Adams were pictured in this year’s photos alongside the senator.
Both had aides from within their administrations allegedly linked to the CCP, with the indictment of now-former deputy chief of staff Linda Sun from the governor’s office naming Huang multiple times.
