Sen accuses Biden of hiding failure behind ‘extremely inappropriate’ timing of SCOTUS nom

As Russia and Ukraine do battle on the streets of Kyiv, President Joe Biden announced his nomination of federal judge Ketanji Brown Jackson for the Supreme Court, fulfilling his promise to pick a black woman and angering Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN).

In a lengthy Friday Twitter thread, Blackburn called the president’s timing “extremely inappropriate” and suggested it was to distract from his failure to deal effectively with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“President Biden’s announcement just days after an unprovoked full-scale invasion by Russia is extremely inappropriate,” Blackburn tweeted. “Once again, Biden is putting the demands of the radical progressive left ahead of what is best for our nation.”

“It is an attempt to hide that for over three months Biden refused to levy sanctions against Russia or send military assistance to Ukraine,” she continued. “However, I cannot hold President Biden’s failure to lead our nation against his nominee.”

President Biden has been widely criticized for his soft approach to sanctioning Russia, waiting until after Russian President Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine to threaten anything meaningful. Then, on Thursday, Biden claimed that everyone knew the sanctions weren’t going to stop Putin’s aggression, contradicting several within his administration and even his own vice president, who all claimed the sanctions were absolutely a deterrent.

Meanwhile, in his introduction of Jackson Friday, Biden said, “For too long our government, our courts, haven’t looked like America.”

Biden noted that Jackson would be the first former public defender to serve on the Supreme Court and that she has already received bipartisan approval from the Senate when she was confirmed for the federal bench.

“She served both in public service as a federal public defender, and in private law practice as an accomplished lawyer with a prestigious law firm,” he said from the White House.

But not everyone is convinced.

“If confirmed, Ketanji Brown Jackson will make US History by becoming the first communist Supreme Court Justice,” tweeted Brigitte Gabriel.

The GOP agreed, tweeting: “Joe Biden just nominated a radical, left-wing activist to serve a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court. His pick was the preferred choice of far-left special interests. Republicans will make sure voters know how radical his pick really is.”

And according to RNC Research, Jackson has “repeatedly ruled against conservative policies,” has “‘a striking record of reversals’ of her decisions by appellate courts” and has a record of “defending terrorists.”

As for Jackson, she said she is “truly humbled” by Biden’s nomination.

“I must begin these very brief remarks by thanking God for delivering me to this point in my professional journey,” Jackson said. “My life has been blessed beyond measure, and I do know that one can only come this far by faith.”

Sen. Blackburn intends on keeping an open mind.

“I do plan on meeting with the President’s nominee in person, and thoroughly vetting her record to determine if she is a person of high character,” she tweeted. “A Supreme Court nominee must be committed to upholding the rule of law and Constitution as written.”

“We must not blindly confirm a justice to serve as a rubber stamp for a radical progressive agenda,” Blackburn added.
