Sen. Chris Coons downplays Biden docs, claims ‘one document’ separates president from Trump

Following the discovery by the FBI of six more classified documents in President Joe Biden’s Wilmington, Del., home, Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) downplayed the scandal, claiming it’s not an “issue” at the top of American voters’ list of concerns.

“Frankly, I also don’t think this is an issue that’s keeping Americans up at night. I think they’re worried about much more day-to-day things like inflation prices and … prescription drug prices,” he told Martha Raddatz on ABC’s “This Week.”

American Wire News reports that federal agents descended on Biden’s Delaware home on Jan. 20 and spent 12 hours looking through the Big Guy’s stuff during a “planned, consensual search” of what Biden’s personal attorney, Bob Bauer, said is “all working, living and storage spaces in the home.”

The agents took possession of six classified documents dating back to Biden’s tenure as a U.S. Senator.

Naturally, even though Biden’s White House had previously stated that all the classified documents had been turned over, the discovery of still more materials should not in any way be likened to the documents found at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

One specific document, Coons stated, makes all the difference in the world.

“There is one important document that distinguishes former President Trump from President Biden, that’s a warrant,” he said with enough spin to make one nauseous. “It required an FBI search, a non-consensual warrant-driven search, to get the documents from Mar-a-Lago and former President Trump continues to insist he’s above the law, that he has the right to say whatever documents he chooses to from the White House.”

Naturally, Coons leaves out the fact that, unlike the former President, as Vice President — and certainly as a Senator — Biden had no authority to declassify anything and should never have stashed classified materials in his garage.

When confronted by Raddatz with a new ABC News/Ipsos poll showing that the vast majority of Americans — 64% — believe Biden acted “inappropriately” in his handling of classified materials, Coons stated that the only “fallout” Americans will feel from this stunning breach is the time they squandered on discussing the documents instead of talking about what a great leader they have in Biden.

No, really.

That’s his takeaway from a scandal so huge, many feel it will be the end of any 2024 aspirations Biden may be entertaining.

“I think the fallout is right now we’re talking about this instead of President Biden’s leadership on confronting Russian aggression in Ukraine or talking about something I do think is on people’s minds, the potential of a debt ceiling fight and a default,” Coons said. “The political fallout is that it’s going to take focus and attention.”

On Twitter, Sen. Coons’ claims were met with much scorn.

“Spin much?” asked one user. “[Your] hypocrisy has no boundaries.”

“Swamp soup man,” stated another.

“Just watched your propaganda segment,” said a third. “Do you think anyone believes your BS???”

And a fourth called Coons a “jokester, just like the rest.”

“Always about Trump,” the user fumed. “Blamed him to steal the WH, blame him while the current clown show INTENTIONALLY screws everything up, and blaming him for Biden’s sins. You all deserve each other.”
