The need to send a “strong signal” in response to massive amounts of fraud in Minnesota found one senator calling for real consequences up to and including denaturalizations.
As more is uncovered about billions of dollars worth of taxpayer money wrapped up in fraud, an increasing number of Americans are demanding a genuine response from the government beyond the standard expressions of outrage, political theater, and partisan pivot to campaign fundraising. In particular, many are calling for arrests, including Missouri Sen. Eric Schmitt (R), who argued that what was going on in Minnesota was a “legal immigration problem” demanding deportations.
During a Tuesday appearance on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” with guest host Jason Chaffetz, the audience was reminded about Schmitt’s past experience as his state’s attorney general, suggesting the lawmaker could “smell, fraud, waste and abuse,” before the guest was prompted to talk about Congress’ lack of use of the power of the purse to address problems like fraud.
Agreeing that the rampant fraud was likely just the “tip of the iceberg of this fraud from these Somali strongholds in the United States,” Schmitt asserted, “This is a broader legal immigration problem.”
“We talk a lot about illegal immigration, but this is a legal immigration problem. So, from my perspective, under 18 U.S.C. § 1343, the wire fraud statute, there ought to be prosecutions immediately,” said the senator, who didn’t stop there. “Every visa that can be revoked should be revoked. Every deportation that should happen should happen right away, and in some cases, where necessary, denaturalization should happen.”
The Somali refugee crisis in Minnesota is a LEGAL immigration problem.
Not ILLEGAL immigration—legal.
So yes, we have to deport every last illegal alien. But we need to overhaul our legal immigration system too.

“A strong signal should be sent to immigrant communities that if you’re going to come here and fleece the American taxpayer, we’re actually going to prioritize taxpayers over this toxic empathy that’s dominated the Democrat Party,” asserted Schmitt, who laid out his main points on addressing the Somali fraud with “immediate action” on X.
Enough talk about Somali fraud. We need immediate action.
1. Arrest all Somali fraudsters under 18 U.S.C. § 1343 (wire fraud).
2. Immediately revoke all Somali fraudsters’ visas. Denaturalize where possible.
3. Deport all eligible for deportation.— Eric Schmitt (@Eric_Schmitt) December 30, 2025
Frustrations regarding the waste of taxpayer money, especially following the economic hardships of President Joe Biden’s administration, where inflation reached its highest point in forty years, and the average price of gasoline broke record highs, found many calling for the resignation of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) at the very least.
While the executive attempted to shift blame from himself to President Donald Trump, a growing call for tax strikes signaled just how important it was for there to be accountability.
Schmitt also addressed concerns regarding funds allocated as part of the government’s response to COVID and said, “I think you’re going to see another wave of this fraud, and you have to have state AGs who are serious about it, and hopefully President Trump’s U.S. attorneys, when those state AGs don’t step up, do it as well. But I think Congress certainly plays a role, but we’re kind of, I’m sort of done with the talking. This is about prosecutions now. This is about putting people in jail. They’ve taken billions of dollars.”
People better start going to jail in Minnesota.
