‘She won’t get a dime’: E. Jean Carroll may not get the quick payday Trump foes think

A New York jury may have ordered Donald Trump to cough up $83 million for calling E. Jean Carroll a “whacko,” but the so-called “victim” may have a long time to wait before she can roll around on a mountain of cash.

Understandably, Trump’s legal team is already planning its appeal of the staggering verdict, and the presumptive GOP nominee won’t have to pay the full amount until the appellate court rules — “a process that could take months or more,” according to The New York Times.

The Times notes that Trump “is still on the hook to pay something” while he waits for his appeal to play out, but he has a couple of options.

The former president was ordered to hand Carroll $5.5 million last year in a related case — a hefty sum that he gave to the court to hold while his appeal is pending. As he has the cash, he could do the same with the $83 million.

“Or, Mr. Trump can try to secure a bond, which will save him from having to pay the full amount up front,” The Times reports. “A bond might require him to pay a deposit and offer collateral, and would come with interest and fees. It would also require Mr. Trump to find a financial institution willing to lend him a large sum of money at a time when he is in significant legal jeopardy.”

Either way, according to Bruce Green, director of the Louis Stein Center for Law and Ethics at Fordham University, Carroll will eventually get paid.

“He’s the rare defendant with an $83 million verdict against him who actually has the money,” Green said. “Wherever this lands, she should be able to collect.”

As BizPac Review reported, Trump’s attorney, Alina Habba, came out of the Manhattan courthouse swinging on Friday.

“I’m so proud to stand with President Trump. But I am not proud to stand with what I saw in that courtroom,” she told reporters following the verdict. “And that is why I stand with Trump. That is why so many Americans are so proud that he is running again, and so excited to run to the ballot box.”

“But, don’t get it twisted,” Habba stated. “We are seeing a violation of the justice system. Ladies and gentlemen, you are not allowed to be stripped of every defense you have.”

Thanks to some digging by the New York Post, Trump has a strong argument with which to challenge the outcome of the politically motivated trial.

It turns out that the judge presiding over the case, Lewis Kaplan, was like a “mentor” to Carroll’s attorney, Roberta Kaplan (no relation), when the two worked together at the same high-powered law firm in the early 1990s.

“It was never disclosed. It’s insane and so incestuous,” Habba said upon learning on Saturday of the Kaplans’ prior connection. “This is news to us. We are going to include this in our appeal and take appropriate measures. The fact it wasn’t disclosed is an ethics violation.”

As the left does cartwheels over the prospect of Trump having to pay Carroll such a ridiculous sum, many of the former president’s supporters are hoping she never sees a dime of his money.

“[A]side from any appeal this can possibly drag out for years,” one user wrote on X. “If that happens she won’t see a dime of that money.”

“He’ll likely never pay a dime on these completely fraudulent cases,” said another.

“I know it’s old fashioned, but I kind’a like to see evidence before declaring someone guilty,” the user added. “Just my thing.”

“Keep appealing forever,” a third suggested.

“She won’t get a dime,” one user predicted. “It never happened.”
