Newly-elected House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has barely completed his first week on the job and is already being labeled as a danger to democracy.
And these attacks are from so-called members of his own party.
A GOP-aligned group launched an ad campaign smearing the Louisiana lawmaker as a “danger to our democracy” while former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) grasped for relevance in echoing the views, claiming Johnson supported efforts to “undermine our republic.”
Cheney smeared Johnson’s character over his support of former President Donald Trump’s claims of election fraud in an interview on the University of Virginia podcast “Politics is Everything.”
“He was acting in ways that he knew to be wrong. And I think that the country unfortunately will come to see the measure of his character,” she told Larry Sabato.

“One of the reasons why somebody like Mike Johnson is dangerous is because when you have elected Republicans who know better, elected Republicans who know the truth but yet will go along with the efforts to undermine our republic, the efforts, frankly, that Donald Trump undertook to overturn the election,” added Cheney, who crashed and burned in her re-election bid and is now a professor at the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics.
“In my view, he was willing to set aside what he knew to be the rulings of the courts, the requirements of the Constitution, in order to placate Donald Trump, in order to gain praise from Donald Trump, for political expedience. So it’s a concerning moment to have him be elected Speaker of the House,” the pompous RINO declared.
But more Never-Trumpers have crawled out of the woodwork to malign Johnson.
“Republican Mike Johnson just became Speaker of the House. But he’s the last person who should be leading Congress,” declared an ad by the Republican Accountability Project, formerly known as Republican Voters Against Trump.
“After Donald Trump lost the election, Johnson started pushing Trump’s ‘Big Lie,’ pressuring the Supreme Court to overturn the will of voters in four states. And after the January 6 insurrection, Johnson still refused to certify the election results in Arizona and Pennsylvania,” the ad, part of a six-figure campaign launched by the group on Wednesday, continued.
“Trump wanted to steal your vote,” the video ad claimed. “Speaker Johnson helped him. Today’s GOP: A danger to our democracy.”
According to a press release, the “spot will air during Fox News primetime from November 1 – 7 in all the states where Johnson sought to overturn the will of the voters: Pennsylvania, Georgia, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Arizona.”
“The GOP decided to elevate one of the most extreme candidates for Speaker that it could find,” Gunner Ramer, political director for the Republican Accountability Project, said in a statement.
“While most people have never heard of him before, Mike Johnson has spent years quietly executing Donald Trump’s plans to subvert democracy and overturn the will of the voters. His Speakership shows that the MAGA takeover of the Republican Party continues,” he added.
After three weeks with no speaker in the House of Representatives following the ouster of Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., Johnson was voted in by all GOP members of the House. Democrats immediately began attacks against him and are using his Christian faith and strong convictions to portray him as a fundamentalist and radical.
It seems their hopes to undermine vulnerable Republicans in Congressional districts ahead of upcoming elections are being aided and abetted by RINOs like Cheney and other so-called Republicans.
More propaganda from a woman rightfully run out of Wyoming by her constituents.
