Comedian Ricky Gervais took aim at Grammy Award winners making political speeches, who clearly didn’t learn from his 2020 Golden Globes monologue.
Being lectured about political issues by celebrities is like receiving a lesson on poverty from your rich friend who has never been poor in their life: Even if they are well-meaning, their commentary almost always comes off as tone-deaf.
Nobody has been better about calling this out than the English comedian, who shocked the Golden Globes six years ago by telling a roomful of celebrities what the average American thinks about their pandering.
“If you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a platform to make a political speech,” he said in 2020. “You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg.”
In a post from Monday morning, Gervais pointed out that the celebs “still aren’t listening.”

But this year, he wasn’t the only one mocking the rich and famous. Rapper Nicki Minaj, who has recently come under fire for not falling in line with the leftist orthodoxy expected of her, issued what can only be called a scorched-earth takedown of the award show.
“Trevor refuses to come out the closet when everyone in the industry knows his boyfriend. Allegedly,” she tweeted.
“Are y’all understanding that these ppl have been sacrificing children as a way of gaining & maintaining power? If you ever vote DemonCrat again, you’re just as soulless as they are & will perish. Maybe it’s time for me to do some story times — since I was trying to not say what I know — yet they continue to attempt bullying. Also, I won’t be releasing an album until my contract is renegotiated & until I tell you about all the sabotage this RICO is finding out about Billboard,” she wrote in a separate post.
“They sabotaged my documentary b/c i spoke about abuse that i suffered. They’ve been trying to stall all my projects in hopes I’d lose a bunch of money & beg them for help. Their leaders still think it’s a joke. The destruction that’s about to come down on them isn’t funny. I told y’all to leave me alone. Now you’ll understand why you should’ve just sat there & taken your meds,” the artist snarked.
She even took on illegal immigration, a hot button issue that celebrities commented on by wearing “ICE out” pins to the show.
“They’re flying in immigrants to vote b/c they reneged on all the promises they made to African Americans & can no longer get the African American vote by default. They’re causing distractions in the streets to distract from the billions they stole from tax payers,” Minaj explained.
