Stomach-churning footage: Raw sewage pours out of ceiling at major US airport

Delayed flights are no longer the worst thing that can happen to weary airline travelers.

Imagine waking up, traveling to the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, navigating security, and finding your gate on time just to have your flight delayed due to what appears to be raw sewage raining from the ceiling. That was the reality for passengers like Jamaal Carlos Jr., who caught the bizarre moment on camera.

Watch:

Speaking to 11Alive, the man detailed the horrifying moment that a brown, stinking liquid began pouring down from above as he sat outside Gate T11 awaiting his flight to Dallas.

“As we’re waiting, we see water just pouring from the ceiling. It had been pouring consistently for maybe 10-15 seconds,” he said. “And it just progressively got worse. The ceiling fell through, and it stinks really bad.”

According to Carlos, some passengers weren’t going to let anything, including potential raw sewage, stop them from getting to their destination.

“Even after it poured… I thought they would get buckets or do something, but people were walking through it,” the man recalled.

“Airport personnel had to come and re-route everyone to take a different route. It’s crazy. So, they moved our gate… we were just so close to it. So they moved us a little bit further, but you can still smell it two or three gates down,” he added.

Airport officials released a statement indicating that they are investigating the source of the leak:

The affected area has been contained, and remediation crews are actively working to clean and sanitize the space. The Lower North Checkpoint is temporarily closed. Customer service representatives are on-site to assist and reroute passengers around the impacted area to ensure minimal disruption. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) are also present as a precaution. There is no impact to overall Airport operations.
