Taylor Swift’s icy Golden Globe glare over ‘low blow’ joke tops highlight of celebs’ big self-love night

It’s fair to say that comedian Jo Koy struggled on the stage of CBS’s 81st annual Golden Globes Awards on Sunday.

Granted, he didn’t have long to prepare for it. He wasn’t announced as the host until December 21.

But when he ran for a Taylor Swift touchdown, the reaction from the pop princess pretty well summed up the star-studded reaction to many of his cringe-worthy jokes.

The awards show aired right after “a football double-header,” and Koy couldn’t resist commenting on Swift’s highly-publicized relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

“As you know, we came on after a football double-header,” Koy said after a commercial break. “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? On the Golden Globes we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift. I swear. There’s just more to go to here.”

Swift’s icy stare as she sipped her champagne was as stinging as a slap from Will Smith.

Swift’s film “Taylor Swift: The Era’s Tour” was up for an award in a new category, “Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.” Despite Koy’s statement, the cameras caught plenty of shots of the singing sensation, and social media reacted to each of them in real-time.

When the singer exchanged a few words with actress and singer Selena Gomez, X gleefully determined the duo must be “talking s**t.”

It was far more entertaining than Koy’s attempts at humor.

Koy’s opening monologue was, by all accounts — including his own — a mess.

One viewer wrote on X, “As a Filipino American, this Jo Koy monologue is like watching a car crash. He’s so painfully out of touch with everything. He makes comedy for immigrant parents. He looks like he’s about to have an aneurysm.”

On stage, Koy blamed the writers.

“I got the gig 10 days ago!” he said at one point. “You want a perfect monologue?”

Comedian Jim Gaffigan generated his own deliciously awkward moment when he expressed his surprise at being a star.

“I can’t even believe I’m in the entertainment industry. I can’t. It’s so unlikely,” he told the Hollywood crowd. “I’m from a small town in Indiana. I’m not a pedophile…”

But the show did go on, and it wasn’t without its glitzy moments.

When he won “Best Performance by a Male Actor” in a drama film for “Oppenheimer,” Cillian Murphy’s lipstick-covered nose was irresistible.

When his name was announced, his wife smothered him in smooches.

“First question, do I have lipstick all over my nose?” the “Peaky Blinders” star asked the audience.

“I’m just gonna leave it,” he grinned after celebrities shouted, “Yes!”

Social media swooned.

“Oppenheimer” — unlike Koy — had a glorious evening.

The riveting drama took home five awards, including “Best Actor”; “Best Supporting Actor,” Robert Downey Jr.; “Best Director,” Christopher Nolen; and “Best Motion Picture — Drama.”

Emma Stone was named “Best Female Actor” in a comedy or musical for her role in “Poor Things,” which won best musical or comedy film.

Backstage, as she posed for the press, Stone stood up for Swift.

“What an a**hole, am I right?” she told reporters, presumably referring to Koy. “I’ve known her for almost twenty years. I was very happy she was there. And she was also nominated tonight, which was wonderful. And… umm… yes. What an a**hole!”
