GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley’s campaign lashed out at the Republican National Committee and chairwoman Ronna McDaniel over a report that it is seeking to make frontrunner Donald J. Trump the presumptive nominee.
The online political news outlet The Dispatch reported that it had obtained an RNC draft memo to dispense with the formalities and just move onto a general election footing by getting behind the frontrunner despite Haley’s likely futile crusade to replace him.
“RESOLVED that the Republican National Committee hereby declares President Trump as our presumptive 2024 nominee for the office of President of the United States and from this moment forward moves into full general election mode welcoming supporters of all candidates as valued members of Team Trump 2024,” read a portion of the draft said to have been written by Trump ally David Bossie, according to the outlet.
NEW: The RNC is reviewing a draft resolution that, if approved, would declare Donald Trump the party’s presumptive 2024 presidential nominee–even as Nikki Haley continues to wage a vigorous campaign against the former president and frontrunner.

“Who cares what the RNC says? We’ll let millions of Republican voters across the country decide who should be our party’s nominee, not a bunch of Washington insiders,” said Haley campaign spokesperson Olivia Perez-Cubas, an ironic remark considering that D.C. insiders are her boss’s top backers.
“If Ronna McDaniel wants to be helpful she can organize a debate in South Carolina, unless she’s also worried that Trump can’t handle being on the stage for 90 minutes with Nikki Haley,” she told Fox News Digital.
After Haley’s drubbing in New Hampshire, McDaniel seemed to indicate that she needed to call it a campaign and drop out so that the party could coalesce around Trump as the nominee.

“Looking at the math and the path going forward, and I don’t see it for Nikki Haley,” McDaniel said. “I think she’s run a great campaign but I do think that there’s a message that’s coming out from the voters which is very clear.”
“We need to unite around our eventual nominee, which is going to be Donald Trump, and we need to make sure we beat Joe Biden,” the RNC boss added.
Trump also reacted to the report, saying thanks but no thanks and that he wants to beat the former South Carolina governor and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations fair and square at the ballot box

“While I greatly appreciate the Republican National Committee (RNC) wanting to make me their PRESUMPTIVE NOMINEE, and while they have far more votes than necessary to do it, I feel, for the sake of PARTY UNITY, that they should NOT go forward with this plan, but that I should do it the ‘Old Fashioned’ way, and finish the process off AT THE BALLOT BOX. Thank you to the RNC for the Respect and Devotion you have shown me! TRUMP2024,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Thursday evening.
Haley’s campaign could soon be running on fumes as some donors, including billionaire Reid Hoffman, starting to jump ship with more likely on the way after Trump announced that they are at risk of being “permanently barred from the MAGA camp” if they continue to prop her up.
