Teen who allegedly threw her newborn in the trash seen beaming in prom pic: ‘You would never have known’

Alexee Trevizo, 19, who had a baby and then allegedly dumped the newborn in a New Mexico hospital trash bin where the little one perished was pictured callously smiling at her high school prom three months later as if nothing had happened.

A photographer snapped the shot and commented, “You would never have known.”

Trevizo wore a tan mini dress and white sneakers, standing alongside her longtime boyfriend, Devyn Fierro, who is reportedly the father of the dead baby, at the late April event, all smiles. One notable tweet from the Daily Mail proclaimed, “Baby Killer’s Big Night Out.”

“She was holding her boyfriend’s arm, it was big smiles. They were excited to be at prom,” photographer Melody Smith recounted, according to the New York Post.

“I had no idea about [the baby] at the time but when I looked back on the photos, I remembered her because I remember how unusual I thought it was that she wore such a short dress,” Smith noted.

In May, Trevizo was charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence after secretly delivering a baby boy in the bathroom at Artesia General Hospital on Jan. 27.

“You would never have known,” Smith told the Daily Mail. “It wasn’t until after and then there was some retaliation about the fact she had been allowed to attend that I realized what had happened.”

Trevizo was admitted to the hospital with back pain. Staff became suspicious when she locked herself in the hospital bathroom for “quite a while.” Doctors and nurses eventually gained access to the bathroom and saw a bloody mess inside. At that point, they presumed that she had “done something to herself” in an effort to terminate her pregnancy. Then one of the nurses found a dead, full-term baby in the garbage.

“He had hair and, um, he was like purple-ish. He wasn’t bruised or nothing like that. He was purple, pink-like skin color,” a hospital cleaner told police.

“I noticed the umbilical cord looked like an animal had torn it apart,” a nurse named Lori stated. “It caught my eye and I was like, ‘God, this chick really ripped this thing apart’ because those things are hard to cut.”

Trevizo, a high school cheerleader, had previously lied, saying she hadn’t had sex, despite a pregnancy test that said otherwise.

“She put the baby in the trash can and then another clean liner over the top of it,” a doctor told police. “The baby is dead… She killed the kid. She had it in the bathroom is what happened and then whatever she did, I don’t know — she’s going to lie.”

Later, Trevizo admitted that she gave birth in the bathroom and then threw the baby away in the dumpster while she was questioned in her hospital bed.

“I’m sorry. It came out of me and I didn’t know what to do,” the teen wept, telling the doctor and her mother, Rosa Rodriguez.

“Lexee, I told you about this! I just asked you, baby, to tell me the truth!” Rodriguez admonished her daughter. “Lexee, have you watched the news about what the girls do to their babies and they go to jail?”

At first, Trevizo claimed the baby was stillborn. But the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator eventually ruled the death a homicide.

Fierro willingly admitted to being the father of the infant but did not cop to knowing she was pregnant.

“She said her hips were hurting bad. I asked if anything else was hurting and she said, ‘Just everything.’ And she went to sleep,” he told police.

Following her arrest on May 10, Trevizo was released and allowed to finish the school year without an ankle monitor or house arrest while she awaits trial. She was permitted to graduate but did not attend the graduation ceremony.

A lawyer for Trevizo told Inside Edition that she is innocent of all crimes and never realized she was pregnant until she started giving birth in the hospital on the morning of Jan. 27, which is all but impossible to believe considering she reportedly had her cheerleading outfit adjusted for her pregnancy.

Trevizo’s murder trial will begin on October 2, 2023.
