‘That’s what the yellow stars were for’: Whoopi Goldberg torched for ‘deep ignorance’ following Holocaust comments

Whoopi Goldberg’s “deep ignorance” about the Holocaust is “wrong to the point of being offensive,” according to Newsweek editor Batya Ungar-Sargon, who slammed the comedian-turned-talk show host for doubling down on her inflammatory take on Jews and Nazi Germany during an interview last week with the Times of London.

As American Wire reported, the 67-year-old co-host of ABC’s “The View” was forced to issue yet another apology after telling the Times, “My best friend said, ‘Not for nothing is there no box on the census for the Jewish race. So that leads me to believe that we’re probably not a race.'”

“It doesn’t change the fact that you could not tell a Jew on a street. You could find me. You couldn’t find them,” she said in defense of similar remarks that got her suspended from her show in February. “That was the point I was making. But you would have thought that I’d taken a big old stinky dump on the table, butt naked.”

“You can’t post questions about Pharma and vaccines, but Whoopi can openly question the meaning of the Holocaust,” said guest host Rachel Campos-Duffy on Wednesday’s broadcast of Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime.”

“Liberal privilege at its finest,” she added.

To Ungar-Sargon, Campos-Duffy asked, “Is she ignorant or is she anti-Semitic?”

“It’s a great question,” Ungar-Sargon replied. “I don’t think what Whoopi said was anti-Semitic. It was wrong to the point of being offensive, sort of like saying that the Civil War was not about slavery. If you say that to one of your black friends you’re gonna have a fight on your hands.”

“Or they’re just gonna think you’re dumb,” Campos-Duffy shot back.

“Exactly,” Ungar-Sargon agreed. “There’s just a deep ignorance there.”

“The mistake she keeps making over and over is saying, ‘if a Nazi showed up here and I was standing next to… Jews who have white skin, they would know I’m black. They wouldn’t know they’re Jewish,'”  she continued. “And it’s like, Whoopi that’s what the yellow stars were for. Of course they see them as a separate race.”

After digging herself a brand new hole with the Times, Whoopi issued a brand new apology, one in which she did a 180-degree pirouette and insisted she totally got that murdering millions of Jews was a “race” thing.

“Recently while doing press in London, I was asked about my comments from earlier this year. I tried to convey to the reporter what I had said and why, and attempted to recount that time. It was never my intention to appear as if I was doubling down on hurtful comments, especially after talking with and hearing people like rabbis and old and new friends weighing in,” Goldberg’s statement read.

“I’m still learning a lot and believe me, I heard everything everyone said to me,” she continued. “I believe that the Holocaust was about race, and I am still as sorry now as I was then that I upset, hurt and angered people. My sincere apologies again, especially to everyone who thought this was a fresh rehash of the subject. I promise it was not. In this time of rising antisemitism, I want to be very clear when I say that I always stood with the Jewish people and always will. My support for them has not wavered and never will.”
