‘The people have spoken’: Donald Trump reinstated on Twitter after 15M vote on Elon Musk poll

Former President Donald Trump’s Twitter account has been reinstated by the social media platform’s owner, billionaire Elon Musk.

Musk officially unbanned Trump late Saturday following a poll he conducted on whether or not to “[r]einstate former President Trump.”

The final results of the poll were 51.8 percent for reinstatement and 48.2 percent against. Over 15 million Twitter users participated in the poll.

After the conclusion of the poll, Musk reinstated the former president’s account and tweeted “Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” a Latin phrase meaning “the voice of the people is the voice of God.

What remains to be seen is whether Trump himself will return to Twitter now that he boasts his own social media platform, Truth Social. Thus far the former president has indicated that he’s likely going to remain on Truth Social.

Indeed, after Musk launched the poll earlier Saturday, the president posted a Truth Social “Truth” encouraging his supporters to vote in the poll but reminding them that “we aren’t going anywhere” because “Truth Social is special.”

Furthermore, while speaking to the Republican Jewish Coalition via satellite video earlier Saturday, the president reiterated that he’ll be “staying” at Truth Social.

“So Truth Social has been very, very powerful, very, very strong, and I’ll be staying there. But I hear that we’re getting a big vote to also go back on Twitter. I don’t see it because I don’t see any reason for it. They have a lot of problems at Twitter. You see what’s going on,” he said.

“It may make it. It may not make it. But the problems are incredible. The engagements are negative. And you have a lot of bots. And you have a lot of fake accounts. But Truth Social has taken the place for a lot of people, and I don’t see them going back on Twitter,” the former president added.

During his RJC interview, the former president also confirmed that he likes Musk and appreciates his decision to buy Twitter and transform it into a bastion of free speech.

“Well, I like that he bought it. I’ve always like him. I got along with him very well during my days as president and got to know him pretty well. But I do like him. I’ve always really. He’s a character, and I tend to like characters. And he’s smart,” Trump said.

As previously reported, Trump was permanently suspended from Twitter only days after the Jan. 6th riot, prompting his decision to launch Truth Social.

Reuters notes that “Truth Social has been Trump’s main source of direct communication with his followers since he began posting on the app regularly in May. ”

“He has used Truth Social to promote his allies, criticize opponents and defend his reputation amid legal scrutiny from state, congressional and federal investigators,” according to the establishment media outlet.

The good news for those of his fans who’d like to see him return to Twitter is that his contract with Truth Social allows him “to engage extensively on other platforms.”

“Trump is obligated to give Truth Social a six-hour exclusive on any post – but is free to post ‘political messaging, political fundraising or get-out-the vote efforts’ on any site, at any time, according to a May SEC filing,” Reuters notes.

As for Musk, he’s now being inundated with tweets from angry leftists threatening to cancel their accounts and leave Twitter for Mastadon because of his democratic decision to reinstate the former president:

Mastadon is a far-left-owned social media platform that openly and proudly censors and silences all dissenting ideas and criticism.
