Tillis wants Stephen Miller OUT

Amid the swamp’s stand against widely popular legislation, a RINO on his way out appeared set on landing another blow to the president’s administration after seemingly scoring a scalp last week.

Congressional hearings proved a precursor to the end of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s tenure in the role Thursday when President Donald Trump announced his nomination of Oklahoma Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R) to take over the cabinet position.

As Noem was reassigned to a newly-created position as special envoy for The Shield of Americas, North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis (R) reacted to the moves by setting his sights on the ousting of adviser Stephen Miller.

Appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday, the lawmaker who opted out of seeking re-election, voiced his favor for the firing of the White House deputy chief of staff as he told anchor Jake Tapper, “It gives me pause that you have people like Stephen Miller calling the shots …”

“It was Stephen Miller that was talking about a terrorist brandishing a gun,” Tillis went on as he referred to the messaging in the immediate aftermath of the death of Alex Pretti in Minnesota. “It was Stephen Miller who said it was the position of the United States that we should go after Greenland. It’s Stephen Miller that’s been repeatedly responsible for embarrassment for the president of the United States by acting too quickly, speaking first, and thinking later.”

Assuring that he believes Mullin wouldn’t rely on the expressed opinions of the White House adviser in addressing the public, the senator was then asked, “Do you think Stephen Miller should go?”

“Oh, of course I do,” said the lawmaker who continued, “… he’s not worried about substance — more worried about form. But I also think that he has an outsized influence over the operations of the cabinet. And I believe we’ve got qualified cabinet members there that sometimes are doing less than what they want to because of his direction and his outsized influence. He’s a big problem in this administration; he has been from the beginning.”

The call of Miller’s ousting came less than a week after Tillis had announced his intent to block nominations while denying quorum and markup “at as many committees as” he could until he got answers from DHS related to an Office of Inspector General investigation regarding federal immigration enforcement in North Carolina — a position he took after ranting through a “performance evaluation” of Noem for 10 minutes.

Days later, it was reported that despite massive bipartisan support among voters for passage of the SAVE America Act aimed at ensuring only citizens can vote in federal elections, Tillis was among the members of the Senate GOP against restoring the talking filibuster to ensure its passage.

In addition to the outgoing lawmaker, the list also included Sens. Katie Britt of Alabama, Kevin Kramer of North Dakota, John Curtis of Utah, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Senate Majority Leader John Thune of South Dakota, and the primary-challenged Sen. John Cornyn of Texas.

Reactions to Tillis’ appearance called it out as just the latest example of a swamp creature auditioning for a future gig on corporate media as “the next ‘Republican’ who is consistently and dependably anti-Republican and anti-Trump on TV.”
