Tom Steyer accosted by black voters: ‘Betta not catch you over here with those devil blue eyes!’

Video of California Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tom Steyer being confronted by a mob of protesters is going viral on social media.

What started as an attempt to “court black voters in historic Leimert Park, the cultural hub of Los Angeles’s black community” last Saturday turned into a screaming match, according to journalist Maeve Reston. Despite his attempts to woo minority voters by touting his support for reparations and calling the black community “the moral leader of the United States,” he was not immune from their anger.

So, how did the event go from a show of support for the black community to what is seen above? According to Reston, it was due to a “security incident” rumor:

But outside his event at the Ora Cafe, a small group of protesters were agitated. Rumors of a “security incident” spread inside the venue as towering members of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters — a union supporting Steyer — inexplicably paced in their orange vests from the front door to the back door. Instead of taking questions from the audience, the event’s moderator announced they’d have to cut the dialogue short (even though Steyer insisted he wanted to stay).
