Trump cuts Guilfoyle loose — Democrats see an opening and move in

Congressional Democrats promise that stepping down is only the beginning for Kimberly Guilfoyle as they aim to use her to “hold the admin accountable.”

Leading up to the midterm elections, leftist lawmakers have been open about their intended aims to grind President Donald Trump’s agenda to a halt with taxpayer-funded investigations and hearings should they gain control of the House. Tuesday, as Guilfoyle announced her resignation as U.S. ambassador to Greece amid misconduct allegations, Democrats leveraged this into a talking point with a promise of “oversight.”

As part of newly-minted White House press secretary Katie Zacharia’s press briefing debut, she announced that the administration asked Guilfoyle to resign her post. Reacting to the statement, Democrats on the House Foreign Affairs Committee stated on X, “Good. But resigning does not shield her from accountability. Guilfoyle used her position as a Trump official to get rich, while American families struggle with the cost of living. Congress must conduct oversight to understand how this happened and hold the admin accountable.”

Likewise, reacting to Guilfoyle’s resignation statement wherein she insisted she would “vigorously defend my name, my reputation, and my integrity” over allegations of misconduct, House Oversight Committee ranking member California Rep. Robert Garcia (D) posted, “While your time as Ambassador to Greece may be coming to an end, our investigation has not. We have asked you a series of questions, and we look forward to your responses.”

As previously reported, in addition to allegedly having travels financed by a pair of Greek tycoons, Guilfoyle has been accused of promising former Kentucky congressional candidate Eric Deters access to the Trump administration in exchange for paying off $100,000 in American Express debt.

Claims made to suggest Deters was a “known blackmailer” who faked text messages were met with promises of a defamation lawsuit against Guilfoyle and her attorneys.

“I’ve communicated with the Trump administration today, and I told them — I let them know I’m gonna be suing them for defamation and the story’s not gonna go away,” he said during an interview with CNN’s John Berman.

The Trump donor and attorney also explained that he was scheduled to speak with Garcia as well as House Judiciary Committee ranking member Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin (D) on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, as to Garcia’s request for information from the now-former ambassador, an October 8 letter transmitted to Guilfoyle sought communications between her and a number of individuals since January 1, 2024.

Those individuals included FBI Director Kash Patel, former Attorney General Pam Bondi, political appointees of the Justice Department and the Treasury Department, former IRS Commissioner Billy Long (now U.S. Ambassador to Iceland) and Deters.

Garcia also sought all of Guilfoyle’s personal financial records related to consulting services or gifts, any company she owned or operated, and documents used to make public financial disclosures. She was given until October 22 to comply.
