Trump pulls surgeon general nominee, switches for ‘MAHA’ ally

President Trump replaced U.S. surgeon general nominee Janette Nesheiwat with a physician tied to the “Make America Healthy Again” movement.

Influential Trump allies raised red flags over Nesheiwat’s credentials when it was discovered by CBS News that she had graduated from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine, and not the University of Arkansas School of Medicine, as had been announced, The Hill reported.

A confirmation hearing for Neshweiwat was to be held on Thursday by the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, but was postponed with the announcement that physician Casey Means will be the new nominee.

“I am pleased to announce that Dr. Casey Means, will be nominated as our next Surgeon General of the United States of America. Casey has impeccable ‘MAHA’ credentials, and will work closely with our wonderful Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., to ensure a successful implementation of our Agenda in order to reverse the Chronic Disease Epidemic, and ensure Great Health, in the future, for ALL Americans,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“Her academic achievements, together with her life’s work, are absolutely outstanding,” he continued. “Dr. Casey Means has the potential to be one of the finest Surgeon Generals in United States History. Congratulations to Casey!”

Casey Means graduated from Stanford Medical School and is co-founder of Levels, a health technology company, according to The Hill.

While many from both the MAGA and MAHA movements celebrated the news on X, some were much more skeptical:

Time will tell.

Meanwhile, President Trump wrote that Nesheiwat would be appointed in “another capacity at HHS.”
