Trump responds after fmr. WH Chief of Staff Mark Meadows is given immunity to testify against him

Former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows has accepted immunity in exchange for his testimony, prompting former President Donald Trump to suggest he’s a “weakling” and “coward.”

Like Trump, Meadows is being prosecuted by special counsel Jack Smith over his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. But unlike Trump, Meadows has, it would appear, bent the knee — and only weeks after pleading not guilty.

According to ABC News‘ sources, he’s accepted an immunity deal with Smith, and in return for receiving said immunity, he’s effectively sold Trump down the river.

“The sources said Meadows informed Smith’s team that he repeatedly told Trump in the weeks after the 2020 presidential election that the allegations of significant voting fraud coming to them were baseless, a striking break from Trump’s prolific rhetoric regarding the election,” ABC News notes.

“According to the sources, Meadows also told the federal investigators Trump was being ‘dishonest’ with the public when he first claimed to have won the election only hours after polls closed on Nov. 3, 2020, before final results were in,” ABC’s reporting continues.

“Obviously we didn’t win,” Meadows reportedly told Smith’s team.

Meadows also did a complete 180, reneging on everything he’d claimed in a memoir he’d written after leaving office. In the book, he’d claimed the 2020 election was “stolen” and “rigged” with help from “allies in the liberal media,” who ignored “actual evidence of fraud, right there in plain sight for anyone to access and analyze.”

Yet when speaking with Smith’s team, Meadows reportedly said the opposite.

He said “he has yet to see any evidence of fraud that would have kept now-president Joe Biden from the White House, and he told them he agrees with a government assessment at the time that the 2020 presidential election was the most secure election in U.S. history,” as reported by ABC News.

According to CNN legal analyst Elie Honig, Meadows’ testimony could potentially be a “game changer” vis-a-vis Smith’s prosecution of Trump:

“This is a genuine game changer for prosecutors and a major problem for Donald Trump. A couple things really stick out to me as important. Number one, we now know that Mark Meadows has been given immunity by DOJ, which means DOJ has decided we’re going to give you a pass. We’re not going to prosecute you, but in exchange, you now have to testify and testify truthfully. And this person … Mark Meadows, was the ultimate insider, the closest person to Donald Trump,” she said Tuesday.

“And that leads to the second big point, which is, based on this new reporting, Mark Meadows has come clean. He is now saying, contrary to what he’s been saying publicly for the better part of the last three years, he’s now telling DOJ investigators there was no evidence of fraud and I said so directly to Donald Trump. That’s crucial evidence for prosecutors,” she added.

Evidence that could potentially lead to Trump being convicted and then incarcerated for God knows how long. And so the former president has a lot to lose from Meadows testimony, which likely explains his angry response to the plea deal. Writing on Truth Social, he suggested Meadows is a “weakling” and “coward” who’s been making up “stuff” about him.

“I don’t think Mark Meadows would lie about the Rigged and Stollen 2020 Presidential Election merely for getting IMMUNITY against Prosecution (PERSECUTION!) by Deranged Prosecutor, Jack Smith. BUT, when you really think about it, after being hounded like a dog for three years, told you’ll be going to jail for the rest of your life, your money and your family will be forever gone, and we’re not at all interested in exposing those that did the RIGGING — If you say BAD THINGS about that terrible ‘MONSTER,’ DONALD J. TRUMP, we won’t put you in prison, you can keep your family and your wealth, and, perhaps, if you can make up some really horrible ‘STUFF’ a out him, we may very well erect a statue of you in the middle of our decaying and now very violent Capital, Washington, D.C.,” he wrote.

Some people would make that deal, but they are weaklings and cowards, and so bad for the future our Failing Nation. I don’t think that Mark Meadows is one of them, but who really knows? MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!” he added.

In an additional Truth Social post, he also slammed Meadows for reneging on everything he’d said in his book.

“Mark Meadows NEVER told me that allegations of significant fraud (about the RIGGED Election!) were baseless. He certainly didn’t say that in his book!” Trump wrote.
