Trump responds to sham Jan 6 panel’s criminal referral: ‘What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger’

The partisan witch hunt known as the Jan. 6 committee came to a close Monday and, as the kangaroo court naturally referred former President Donald Trump for criminal charges, the political candidate made sure to let them know what he thought of them and what they’ve overlooked.

Ahead of the start of the 118th Congress, the committee held their last hearing Monday where they played previously unshared testimony of former Trump aide Hope Hicks where she claimed the then-president “refused” to issue a statement to dissuade violence ahead of the Capitol breach on Jan. 6, 2021.

Following this final fizzled-out, one-sided “bombshell,” the committee set forth their ceremonial referrals, hoping to see their Trump Derangement Syndrome satiated with charges of obstruction of an official proceeding, conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to make a false statement and inciting, aiding or assisting an insurrection.

“These folks don’t get it that when they come after me,” the president took to Truth Social to react, “people who love freedom rally around me. It strengthens me. What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger.”

After seemingly brushing aside concern, he continued.

“Americans know that I pushed for 20,000 troops to prevent violence on Jan 6, and that I went on television and told everyone to go home…The people understand that the Democratic Bureau of Investigation, the DBI, are out to keep me from running for president because they know I’ll win and that this whole business of prosecuting me is just like impeachment was — a partisan attempt to sideline me and the Republican party.”

Meanwhile, Senate Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) left his reaction open for interpretation as he took a veiled shot at Trump, telling reporters, “The entire nation knows who is responsible for that day. Beyond that, I don’t have any immediate observations.”

The Kentucky lawmaker had previously gone on the record saying “There is no question that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of that day,” and the fact that there is little love lost between the Republican leaders only added further credence to Trump’s initial reaction.

“The Fake charges made by the highly partisan Unselect Committee of January 6th have already been submitted, prosecuted, and tried in the form of Impeachment Hoax # 2,” he wrote. “I WON convincingly. Double Jeopardy anyone!”

Former federal prosecutor Andrew C. McCarthy offered an op-ed in the New York Post Monday supporting Trump’s attitude on the criminal referral as he suggested the sought charges were not only essentially meaningless, they could actually help his defense if the Justice Department decides to heed the referral.

Contrasting an actual federal prosecution before a heavily vetted “independent judiciary” with the panel where “The only required credential for committee service was a loathing of Donald Trump,” McCarthy blasted the sham hearing and the result, writing, “The committee permitted no cross-examination or alternative perspectives. Its sessions were not adversarial hearings; they were highly rehearsed, dramatic presentations of testimony and video, spliced and diced to support a political narrative that went unchallenged.”

“Which is why the referral may actually hurt a prosecution,” he determined.

“Even if prosecutors meticulously build a case with reliable evidence and testimony,” McCarthy went on, “a referral enables the defendant to argue that the indictment is politically motivated.”

As he put it, Trump’s defense could argue that President Joe Biden’s administration waited until after he announced his campaign to run in 2024 and a Democrat-led committee had made their partisan referral.

Others like Sens. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) and Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) seemingly showed support for Trump with the former dismissing McConnell’s remarks, “I haven’t seen a poll like that,” and the latter contending, “I don’t know who he said was responsible but to me, the people that were responsible for January 6 were the people that illegally came into the building, people that stormed over barriers and broke through windows and doors and illegally trespassed in the United States Capitol.”

Trump himself went after the flagrant display of a two-tiered justice system.

“Think of it! The Radical Left Democrats (Communists), SPIED on my campaign, lied to the FISA COURT, lied to CONGRESS, allowed an INVASION of our COUNTRY on the Southern Border, EMBARRASSED us in Afghanistan, gave away our Energy Independence, killed us on job losing Regulations, wouldn’t use the 10,000 plus soldiers I recommended for Jan 6th, refused to look into Election Fraud-the reason for Jan 6th, Rigged & Stole the 2020 Election, allowed Ballot Stuffing, FBI/Facebook/Twitter & Biden CRIME!” he railed on Truth social.

Unrelenting, he continued, “And I’m the one that the Corrupt and Partisan Unselect Committee goes after. A two tiered ‘Justice’ System … And, by the way, what ever happened with the Massive number of CRIMES committed by JOE & HUNTER BIDEN? They’re right there, documented and 100% certain. Also, where is the prosecutor from Delaware? What happened to him? Is he friends with the Ukrainian Prosecutor who didn’t prosecute after Biden held up the $BILLION PAYMENT to Ukraine?”

Ultimately, Trump concluded, “I DID NOTHING WRONG!”
