Trump says tough immigration policy is the ‘hardest job’, but warns borders WILL reopen under Dems

President Donald Trump touted his administration’s success in securing America’s border while admitting the hot topic has him walking a fine line.

Trump received a record number of Hispanic votes in 2024, helping him win his second term. But recent polls show Hispanic approval waning, and tough immigration policies are reportedly part of the problem.

“Frankly, it’s the hardest job that I’ve had,” he said about his border policies during a Hispanic Heritage Month event at the White House on Wednesday.

“The hardest job, because they’ll say you’re too tough, or you’re too soft. Get tougher, get softer. No matter what you do,” he said.

“I thought I was finished campaigning, but in order to help Republicans, because we need the votes, we have to have the votes, otherwise we’ll have these lunatics with the open borders!” he continued.

“We’ll have the open border lunatics; they’ll open the borders, they’ll let the prisoners from every, I’m not talking about only South America, I’m talking about from all over the world, they’ll let the lunatics in.”

“You saw 25 million people walk across the border into our country, and many of those people were not people that you would want in this country,” Trump added.

He went on to praise the Hispanic community here legally as a hard-working, integral part of America.

“You’re hardworking people. You’re smart as hell. You’re energetic. Sometimes too energetic. You’re incredible people, and I’ve loved you right from the beginning,” Trump said. “You also know when I build a wall, I’m building a wall to keep bad people out, and you want those bad people kept out more than anybody.”

Meanwhile, there’s a massive migrant caravan on the move towards the U.S. Southern border presumably in anticipation of Democrats taking control of Congress in the midterms, and hobbling President Trump’s progress.

“The caravan departed Honduras on Sept. 20 and includes migrants from several countries, including Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Ecuador and Haiti,” Fox News reported. “The movement comes as illegal border crossings remain at historically low levels under the Trump administration’s expanded immigration enforcement.”
