Trump sets record straight after ‘very dishonest’ media took his obvious joke out of context

Former President Trump took the “very dishonest” media to the woodshed during an interview with Dr. Phil for deliberately taking his quotes out of context.

Supporters of Trump know that he tends to use hyperbole during interviews and that he definitely has a sense of humor… something the mainstream media apparently lacks.

“TV personality Dr. Phil is set to air interviews with Trump and his former independent opponent Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. Dr. Phil shared a preview clip of his interview with the former president on Monday on X, noting that media outlets can be outright hostile to Trump’s reputation,” Fox News reported.

One example of twisting the former president’s words happened when he joked with Fox News host Sean Hannity about being a dictator for a day. That quip was delivered to make the point that he would clean house immediately if re-elected and he would secure the border. Of course, the media latched onto the “dictator” reference to vilify Trump when that wasn’t what he meant at all. Trump explained exactly what he meant during the interview.

“And I said jokingly on Sean Hannity, he’s a great guy, I said ‘No, Sean, I wanna be a dictator for one day because I’m gonna get going with Drill, Baby, Drill and I’m gonna strengthen the borders to a level like you’ve never seen, I only wanna-be, and after that, I’ll never be a dictator,’” Trump recounted to Dr. Phil concerning the quote on Fox News’s “Hannity” last December.

Another quote taken out of context dealt with urging Christians to get out and vote during the presidential election.

“You won’t have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians,” Trump said during a speech at a Turning Point Action event in July, adding, “You’ve got to get out and vote. In four years, you don’t have to vote again, we’ll have it fixed so good you’re not going to have to vote.”

“They demonize you a lot,” Dr. Phil candidly told Trump concerning the quote. “They make a big deal out of the fact that you said, ‘You’re only gonna have to vote one time, you elect me you’re only gonna have to vote one time.’”

Leftists have used the quote to insinuate that if the former president is elected he will rig things so he never leaves office. That would include doing away with elections. Again, Trump corrected the record on the purposefully false narrative.

“I said to the Christians, we’ve gotta win this election. If we win this election, I’ll straighten everything out in less than 4 years by a lot,” he commented to Dr. Phil. “Then you don’t have to, it doesn’t matter. In other words, I’m saying you don’t have to vote- it doesn’t mean we’re not gonna have elections! You’re gonna have elections, but you have to vote this time, because we have to win. This is the most important election in the history of our country.”

“So you didn’t mean, ‘Vote me in once, because I ain’t ever leaving.’ You’re meaning, ‘This is an important one, vote this time?’” Dr. Phil clarified.

“Of course, that’s what I meant,” Trump responded. “And I said it, and everybody knows I said it that way, and everybody agrees that I said it in that way.”

This isn’t Trump’s first interview with Dr. Phil, who believes in letting the former president tell his side of what the media is portraying. He also spoke with the host back in June.

Users on X sounded off over the media skewing Trump’s remarks concerning Christians voting:
