Utah governor has message for California ‘refugees’ flooding into his state – Stay home!

If you’re a Californian desperate to escape the surging crime, ridiculous cost of gas, homeless encampments, and insanely-high taxes Governor Gavin Newsom’s progressive policies have created in the Golden State, don’t even think of heading to Utah.

That Republican governor doesn’t want California “refugees” in his state.

Speaking alongside New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy in front of the White House on Friday, Governor Spencer Cox told reporters that, unlike New Jersey, Utah already has plenty of residents.

“We’re having the opposite problem,” Cox said after Murphy discussed plans to lure people to New Jersey. “This last census confirmed that Utah was the fastest-growing state in the last ten years.”

“So our biggest problems are more growth-related,” he continued. “We would love for people to stay in California instead of coming as refugees to Utah, so we’re always trying to figure that out.”

Cox said Utah is not looking “to attract more people.”

“We’re doing just fine that way,” he stated, noting that housing and water are his state’s biggest concerns. “Utah was named the best state to start a business, with Texas and Florida number two and three, so we feel really good about that balance and where we are right now.”

Cox and Murphy were fresh from a meeting with the nation’s governors and President Biden, Vice President Harris, Cabinet members, and senior White House advisers.

According to the National Governors Association (NGA), the group discussed “economic issues, infrastructure investment, and other bipartisan priorities.”

As vice-chair of the NGA, Cox stated, “There is nothing more useful than being in the room with other Governors and sharing ideas. We’ve had productive conversations with federal officials — sharing state perspectives on energy and permitting policies, immigration, inflation, and more.”

Murphy, a Democrat, serves as NGA Chair.

“As Governors, we have the responsibility of solving problems that affect each and every one of our states,” he said. “There are not Democratic problems or Republican problems, but issues that affect everyone.”

“When Governors and members of the Biden administration get around a table to talk about pressing issues, we can find consensus because our residents depend on us to do just that,” he stated. “Together, we have worked across the aisle to address our nation’s crumbling infrastructure, keep our schools and communities safer, and collaborate on critical priorities like public health and economic recovery in the wake of COVID-19.”

“Having a background as a state attorney general, I have some sense of the work that you all do every day in terms of meeting the needs of the diversity of your state, implementing policy in a way that actually hits the ground and has meaning and a direct impact on the families and in the individuals who you serve,” Vice President Kamala Harris told America’s governors. “So, I thank you for your work.”

Meanwhile, despite the, frankly, deplorable conditions in California, the Democratic Governors Association (DGA) has rewarded Gavin Newsom for his ineptitude.

“We’re so excited to announce that Governor @GavinNewsom will serve as the DGA’s Policy Chair for 2023,” the organization tweeted on Thursday.

According to the DGA, Newsom will be “helping to promote and further the priorities Democratic governors are championing, including protecting fundamental freedoms.”
