Venezuela migrant ID’d as Amazon driver who fled after hitting Florida mom pushing baby stroller

A Florida mom was left with “catastrophic” injuries after she was run down by an Amazon driver with the collision also throwing her baby from a stroller and into the street before the driver fled the scene.

The incident was bad enough but the added detail that the diver was a migrant from Venezuela added to the outrage and is just the latest example of the consequences of the disastrous open borders policies of the Biden-Harris administration.

Harrowing surveillance camera video of the hit-and-run shows the mother, whose name has not been released publicly, as she’s taking her 4-month-old infant for a walk along with the family dog on a leash in Ives Estates near Miami when she was struck by the vehicle driven by 45-year-old Sarahy Parra-Ovalles.

After the collision, which took place last Thursday, the 30-year-old mom was dragged across the vehicle before Parra-Ovalles stopped for long enough to pick the baby up off of the street and put him back into the stroller before getting back into the SUV and speeding off. According to police, she identified herself as a delivery driver when gaining entry to the gated community.

Parra-Ovalles left “the baby alone in the middle of the intersection and the mom bleeding from her skull,” attorney Judd Rosen, who is representing the family, told the New York Post.

The lawyer said that the victim was recovering at home from her injuries which include “a catastrophic brain injury, a broken skull and a brain bleed.” The infant was miraculously unharmed.

Rosen told the outlet that the mom had to pump breastmilk from her bed in the intensive care unit where she was hospitalized over the weekend.

“This is one of the worst and most graphic videos as a parent that I have ever seen,” he said of the disturbing footage of the hit-and-run.

According to the Miami-Dade Police Department, Parra-Ovalles was arrested on Friday and charged with leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury and leaving the scene of a crash without serious bodily injury. She was in court on Saturday in front of Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Marcia B. Caballero.

“Ma’am, you’re charged with leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury,” the judge said. She was soon released on bond.

“She was run down in broad daylight and left for dead, and within 24 hours of getting arrested, [the suspect is] back on the streets, potentially driving around. Where is the justice system when you need them?” Rosen asked.

Homeland Security sources told the New York Post that Parra-Ovalles entered the country on a tourist visa in 2019 but it expired in 2021. She was then granted Temporary Protected Status, allowing her to apply for a work permit.

An Amazon spokesperson told the outlet that she is no longer driving for the online retail giant. “This is a terrible incident and our thoughts are with this family. We’re looking into the matter and will support law enforcement as they investigate,” the spokesperson said.

It is unclear how long she was with Amazon but a source with the company said that she underwent a background check during the hiring process.

Rosen told the New York Post that the incident is “indicative of a larger problem with delivery and rideshare giants like Amazon and Uber.”

“They’ve sacrificed their safety and standards to increase the speed of delivery. And I’ve seen over the last months and years that the drivers they’re hiring are less and less qualified,” he said, estimating that he has received “dozens of calls” over several months about incidents involving Amazon and the ride-sharing services.

“Amazon has an army of delivery people invading the suburbs every day, and they put the profits of Jeff Bezos and the Amazon corporation over the safety of the moms and children walking around suburbs throughout America,” Rosen added. “These drivers are on a mission guided by the greed of Amazon to rush all deliveries.”

“This is the last person they’d want driving around in the suburbs, and Amazon simply doesn’t care … all they care about is making money,” he said.
