An alleged vote-for-cash scheme is rocking Wilmington, North Carolina, and has thrown the municipal election into chaos.
The case has already been referred to the North Carolina State Board of Elections (NCSBE), with a New Hanover County voter claiming that they were offered $100 in cash to vote for the Democratic candidates on the ballot.
Look:
HOLY CRAP!!!!
A left-wing group in North Carolina has just been exposed for offering to PAY $100 PER PERSON TO VOTE FOR DEMOCRATS!!!!!
“I can’t afford my electric bill. How long till I get the money after I vote?”

Identifying information such as names and phone numbers have been removed, but the content of the alleged messages is still quite disturbing.
“Hey [redacted] just following up on our conversation from the No Kings Protest. Just a heads up that the Wilmington City Council election is coming up soon. Three Democratic candidates on the ballot are [redacted]. You can read about all the candidates and find voting details on the New Hanover County Board of Elections site,” the message from the unknown person reads. “Each candidate will pay you 100 dollars for your vote.”
“How do I get paid?” the voter responds. “I can’t afford my electric bill. How long till I get the money after I vote? Can you do direct deposit or does it get mailed?”
“After you vote, one of our team members will meet you in her car near your polling place and pay you cash money,” the unidentified messenger explains. “We can arrange transportation if needed.”
“This is troubling. An allegation of paying a voter and attempting to buy votes in an election is an affront to our shared values,” said North Carolina Republican Party (NCGOP) Chairman Jason Simmons. “We remain steadfast in our commitment to the integrity of honest elections and will continue to work diligently to keep North Carolina elections fair, free, honest, and transparent.”
New Hanover County Republican Party Chairman John Hinnant gave a statement to the Carolina Journal encouraging any voter who has received a similar message to report it to the proper authorities.
“We take these allegations very seriously. The voter who received this message did the right thing and reported it to the election integrity hotline. For voters, if you see something, say something and remember, it is a violation of law to take a photograph inside the polling place.”
New Hanover County Democratic Party Chairwoman Jill Hopman attempted to distance her party from the alleged messages and even accused the message recipient of being a “local MAGA activist.”
“The New Hanover Democratic Party is fully committed to free, fair, and secure elections and believes anyone trying to purchase votes should be prosecuted. That said, let’s be clear about the facts here. One well-known local MAGA activist received a text message from an anonymous untraceable number not affiliated with any candidate or party, with nothing to suggest it’s indicative of a widespread scheme. Unfortunately, instead of waiting for the NC Board of Elections to investigate this farce, the NCGOP is trying to turn this into a sensationalized circus,” she said.
