‘Way over his depth’: Chuck Todd schooled over claim scientific research proves ‘gender is a spectrum’

Twitter is trashing NBC’s Chuck Todd after he foolishly decided to challenge Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy on the subject of gender.

Ramaswamy joined Todd on Sunday’s “Meet the Press” and stated that, “below the age of 18, I think it’s perfectly legitimate to say that we won’t allow genital mutilation or chemical castration through puberty blockers.”

Todd, who failed to earn his political science degree from George Washington University, puffed out his chest and challenged Ramaswamy, who holds, among others, a biology degree from Harvard.

“You’re calling it that, but how do you know it’s that? Again, how do you know?” Todd asked. “Are you confident that you know that gender is as binary as you’re describing it? Are you confident?”

“I am,” Ramaswamy replied.

“Do you know this as a scientist?” Todd confidently pressed.

The line of questioning was, on its face, too absurd to take seriously, but Ramaswamy patiently tried to explain it to Todd like he was a 5-year-old.

“Well, there’s two X chromosomes if you’re a woman, and an X and a Y that means you’re a man—”

Todd cut his guest off.

“There is a lot of scientific research that says gender is a spectrum,” he insisted.

Ramaswamy calmly countered with actual science, citing the latest edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM).

“Chuck, I respectfully disagree,” he said. “Gender dysphoria for most of our history, all the way through the DSM-5, has been characterized as a mental health disorder.”

“And I don’t think it’s compassionate to affirm that,” Ramaswamy continued. “I think that’s cruelty. When a kid is crying out for help… you gotta ask the question of, ‘What else is going wrong at home? What else is going wrong at school?’ Let’s be compassionate and get to the heart of that, rather than playing this game as though we’re actually changing our medical understanding for the last hundred years.”

With his “science” argument obliterated, Todd fell back on emotional manipulation to make his case.

“If that is what [parents] think could help their child to pursue happiness or not to kill themselves, why take away that option?” he asked. “Again, why shouldn’t it be up to the parents?”

Rather than fall into the “suicide” trap, Ramaswamy hit back by questioning the “culture” that is intentionally encouraging gender dysphoria among our nation’s youth.

“Part of why parents now suddenly feel that way– let’s ask ourselves that, Chuck, because we’ve created a culture that teaches parents that they are being bigoted or that they are bad people if they don’t actually take those steps,” he stated.

“Listen, gender dysphoria, for the rare few people who have suffered it, is a condition of suffering,” Ramaswamy acknowledged. “My question is, why on earth are we going out of our way to create even more of it? There’s no doubt that the cultural movement in this country, even in education, is creating more gender dysphoria. If it’s a condition of suffering, let’s not create more of it. That’s what we’re doing.”

It was a smooth and skilled takedown of a progressive puppet, one that was applauded on Twitter.

“Todd majored in political science, but never completed a degree,” said one user. “Vivek R. earned a biology degree from Harvard + JD from Yale, and founded a successful pharma company. Todd way over his depth.”

Others were more blunt with their criticism of the host.

And many praised Ramaswamy for speaking “the damned truth.”
