Cruz hammers Biden over debt ceiling fight, claims he’s ‘behaving like a terrorist’

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) bluntly commented on Sunday during an interview with Fox News host Maria Bartiromo that President Biden was “behaving like a terrorist” concerning the debt ceiling standoff as the possibility of a default draws ever closer.

The senator told Biden to “stop playing roulette with the American economy” during the interview over the “Limit, Save, Grow” Act that would raise the debt ceiling by $1.5 trillion while cutting back spending to FY 2022 levels.

“The contrast could not be starker,” Cruz said during the “Sunday Morning Futures” interview. “The Republicans in the House are responsible and Joe Biden… what is he saying? He’s saying ‘I will not talk, I will not negotiate, I will not give in on anything, anyhow, anyway.’”

“What is happening is, Joe Biden is gambling. Joe Biden needs to stop playing roulette with the American economy and with the American credit limit,” he continued. “He doesn’t want to say that. Why? Because he wants to fearmonger. He wants to scare the equity markets. He wants to scare the bond markets, and what he is doing right now is wildly irresponsible.”

Cruz urged Biden to rethink his opposition to the legislation passed by Republicans last week in the House of Representatives that would suspend the debt ceiling through March 31, 2024, or until an increase in debt of $1.5 trillion takes place in exchange for a wide array of spending cuts.

I’ve got some advice for Joe Biden on the debt ceiling, someone he should listen to. President Biden should listen to Joe Biden. Joe Biden in 2011 was the vice president,” Cruz remarked.

“Republicans had taken the House. Republicans held a hard line on the debt ceiling,” he recounted. “And Joe Biden, then-vice president, went and personally negotiated the deal that became the Budget Control Act, a bill that was designed to cut over $2 trillion in our debt. It was the most significant fiscal restraint ever passed in modern times.”

Cruz also recalled that former President Barack Obama did not take part in “this kind of irresponsible fear-mongering” that the president is now engaging in. He stated that Obama sent Biden to Congress to negotiate a deal over the budget.

“That Joe Biden from 2011 needs to come back, not the guy they got right now locked in the basement and a White House that’s being run by 25-year-old radicals who figure, ‘Heck, just let it all default. What do we care?’” the Texas senator contended.

These are little Marxists with no experience in the real world. We need to bring back the Joe Biden who’s done this before. Not the one who is behaving like a terrorist, which is what Biden is doing right now,” Cruz asserted.

Currently, Democrats control the Senate by a razor-thin margin. Biden and the Democrats are demanding a “clean” debt ceiling bill that is separate from spending cuts or policy concessions. The president has leveled heated rhetoric during the fight, accusing Republicans of espousing “wacko notions,” while he pushes propagandistic talking points that could prove disastrous for the American economy.

Cruz admitted that the Senate, which is led by Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), will almost certainly kill the House bill. However, he urged Senate Republicans to put aside their differences and stand strong behind the House GOP proposal.

“Listen, at some level, unfortunately, Senate Republicans are never united. There are 49 Senate Republicans and 52 points of view. That’s just the nature of the Senate,” he claimed.

“That being said, I think what we ought to be doing in the Senate is, we ought to be standing up and backing up the House Republicans,” Cruz admonished. “The House Republicans are showing leadership right now. And Senate Republicans should stand shoulder to shoulder with the House and say: ‘Joe Biden, come to the table.’”
