‘What a hack’: Joy Reid shamefully compares hurricane-fleeing Floridians to illegal migrants

As Americans in Florida fled their homes ahead of Hurricane Ian, faced with the very real possibility that there will be little left when they return, leave it to MSNBC’s host Joy Reid to turn the impending disaster into an opportunity to virtue signal with a vile comparison to the illegal migrants who have stormed our border with Mexico.

On Tuesday’s episode of “The ReidOut,” the divisive host saw the catastrophic hurricane as a “gotcha” moment for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who famously flew 50 migrants to Martha’s Vineyard, causing liberal minds to melt down.

In an attempt to “own” conservatives, Reid commented that DeSantis would have to take a break from “owning the libs” to handle the natural disaster devastating his state.

“It’s a bit ironic now that you might have Floridians having to pour over the borders and go north and get out of the state of Florida in the exact same crisis we have been talking about on a trolling level in that state for a long time,” she stated.

As American Wire reported, as the storm approached, all eyes have been on DeSantis, who fearlessly led Floridians through the COVID-19 pandemic and waged war on their behalf against woke educators in the state’s classrooms, to see how he navigates a natural disaster of this magnitude.

And to the governor’s credit, all indications are that he has risen to the challenge, keeping residents updated with press conferences and on social media, and lining up emergency services prior to the storm’s landfall.

But even as her fellow countrymen faced potential ruin and loss of lives, Reid couldn’t help herself.

She had to take the low road.

“Be careful about attacking people who have to move to save their own lives and safety,” she cautioned DeSantis, “because you never know…when it’s your people who have to migrate, when it’s your people who have to get on that road.”

Needless to say, Twitter was not amused, and users were quick to shut Reid down.

“Yes,” wrote one user. “Because driving from Tampa to Orlando and going home 2-3 days later is exactly like illegally crossing the border of a sovereign nation.”

“That is a shameful statement to make,” admonished another.

“The stupid never ends!” exclaimed a third.

“Oh, let’s wring some partisan politics out of a natural [absolutely nothing to do with carbon emissions] disaster,” yet another user tweeted. “What a hack.”

While she may have thought she was highlighting some flaw in DeSantis’s character with her tone-deaf comments, Reid actually exposed, yet again, the callous, self-serving nature of today’s Democratic Party, as one Twitter user expertly summed up.

“Even in the face of impending disaster,” the user tweeted, “they can’t leave politics for a day.”
