What changed? MLB chooses Atlanta for All-Star game after previously yanking it over ‘Jim Crow’ voting law

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp must be feeling vindicated right about now.

On Thursday, Major League Baseball (MLB) commissioner Rob Manfred announced Atlanta will once again host the All-Star Game, which was moved in 2021 in response to Georgia’s Election Integrity Act of 2021. The law required voter ID and restricted voting via mail-in ballots and drop boxes. Early voting ahead of a general election was also extended from one Saturday to two.

As BizPac Review reported at the time, the MLB discovered the meaning of “go woke, go broke” when it caved to the likes of LeBron James, Stacey Abrams, and Al Sharpton and relocated the All-Star Game to Denver’s Rockies’ ballpark in 2021. Their ratings plummeted to the second-lowest in history, and the Atlanta Braves went on to win the World Series that year.

The law hasn’t changed, but, apparently, baseball has.

“I commend Terry McGuirk, Derek Schiller, the entire Braves organization and the Atlanta Sports Council for leading this effort,” Manfred said at a press conference, according to CBS Sports. “As a model of success on and off the field, the Braves deserve to host the All-Star Game. Truist Park and The Battery Atlanta will provide fans a world-class experience in 2025. We look forward to working with the Braves and local leaders to deliver a memorable All-Star Week that brings people together and benefits the community in many ways.”

Manfred discussed the 2021 move at his press conference.

“I made the decision in 2021 to move the event, and I understand that — believe me — people had then and probably still have different views as to the merits of that decision,” he said.

Outkick’s Clay Travis thinks the return to Atlanta makes the MLB look “dumb,” and he blames the media for not calling out the organization.

“MLB just announced Atlanta will host the 2025 all star game. Good for Atlanta and the Braves, but how dumb does MLB look?” he asked on X. “They completely bought the Jim Crow 2.0 bullsh*t from Joe Biden & Stacey Abrams & now are essentially admitting they were 100% wrong. What idiots.”

“If we had an honest sports media this would be a huge story,” Travis continued. “But, just like with covid, most will pretend all of this never happened. The left wing sports media memory holes all the lies they endorse and propagandize when they are exposed as lies.”

Florida Governor and 2024 presidential candidate Ron DeSantis praised Governor Kemp for “not backing down” in 2021.

“When Georgia passed a strong election integrity law in 2021, the MLB caved to far-left extremists and Joe Biden’s lies by canceling the All Star Game in Atlanta,” he stated. “But today @BrianKempGA was proven right for not backing down and the truth won!”

“Nothing’s changed since MLB pulled the 2021 All-Star Game, except that the entire country saw how wrong the left was,” said Jason Snead, executive director of the Honest Elections Project. “Glad to see MLB admit that Georgia’s election law is a grand slam.”
