A daily reality for victims proved merely “hypothetical” to a socialist spokesperson in her latest bid to dodge basic questions about her party’s radical platform.
“These communists are insane.”
While state Assemblymember Francesca Hong’s loss in the Wisconsin Democratic gubernatorial primary proved the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) are not an unstoppable force, it remains that many of their radical candidates have already advanced to the general election. As Los Angeles voters face their own lose-lose scenario for mayor, a DSA representative skirted a question on defunding the police, insisting a better way to address rapists is with “well-lit streets.”
Shared by former LA mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt, an interview between NBC 4 Los Angeles anchor Conan Nolan and DSA National Political Committee Member Frances Gill included her being pressed on the party agenda. In response to the host’s question on an alternative to police, she deflected, “I really wanna avoid getting kind of caught into these hypotheticals and talk about the reality that we’re actually facing right now.”
Pratt captioned the clip with mention of incumbent Mayor Karen Bass’ (D) opponent, “Nithya Raman’s partner at DSA LA says their goal is to completely abolish police & prisons. When asked what happens if a girl gets raped? Her answer? ‘I want to talk about street lights.’ These communists are insane. Crazy slovenly malcontents.”

Leading up to the remark, mention of defunding police first found Gill stating, “What we really wanna see is a horizon where folks are not reliant on armed enforcement to meet our public safety needs.”
To that, Nolan reminded to the smiling socialist, “Right, but it says ‘defund police’ on the website — that’s your goal — and also to get rid of prisons and jails, correct?”
“If my daughter is assaulted and raped,” he went on, “is there any agency that would seek to find her assailant and bring him to justice?
Like pulling teeth following an “of course” from his guest, the anchor added, “What would it be if not police and where would he be if not a jail?” earning the gripe about “hypotheticals.”
Gill further argued that instead of spending “insane” sums on financing the police which she argues don’t make people “safe and feel safe,” the money would be better spent on “well-lit streets.”
Previously, a debate with Manhattan Institute fellow Daniel Di Martino found the Venezuelan immigrant decrying the lack of accountability of socialism. As he brought up DSA’s support for since arrested Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro, Gill attempted to avoid the topic while suggesting he’d been “democratically elected.”
Meanwhile, the DSA has been open about its extremist plans which also include elimination of the Senate, defunding the War Department and expanding power of the legislature over the judiciary and executive branches.
Reactions aligned to suggest the clip would be funny if it weren’t so sad and inherently dangerous for the future of the nation.
