Leftist comedian Jon Stewart on Monday skewered Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and the Democrat Party at large over their refusal to stand up to President Donald Trump.
Appearing on “The Daily Show,” he began by listing several of Trump’s recent actions that he feels Democrats should have done more to stop, including the signing of a continuing resolution (CR) bill.

Zeroing in on the CR, Stewart explained that the Democrats had finally stumbled on an opportunity to “stand up and show their dispirited party they still have the principle and the backbone to face down this wannabe tyrant” by voting it down.
There was just one problem: Schumer caved and voted with Senate Republicans last week to pass the CR (and thus avoid an unnecessary government shutdown that would have possibly been blamed on Democrats). Stewart wasn’t happy about this.
But Stewart did initially give Schumer the benefit of the doubt by assuming that the Democrat lawmaker had at least secured some concessions in exchange for his vote.
“You probably got a little something out of this, didn’t you?” he said. “You wouldn’t have given up that powerful leverage on the budget for nothing. My guess is Chucky got some cheese.”
Except in reality, Schumer agreed to pass the CR in exchange for nothing — absolutely nothing.
“What the f–k happened?” Stewart asked incredulously. “Senator Schumer, no disrespect, but you are a disgrace to Jewish stereotypes about financial negotiations. I thought the whole point of us is that’s what we do. But you’re out there, ‘How much is it? $5. How about I give you $7?’ Like, what are you doing?”
“And those of you who felt like this was a total capitulation, Senator Schumer just felt like this wasn’t the moment for Democrats to press their case because Trump is still too strong. But apparently, the grand plan is Dems keep fecklessly complaining until [Trump’s] 48 percent approval comes down to 40, which is a plan, but it’s forgetting one crucial piece of information in Schumer’s popularity calculation,” he added.
Stewart then showed the results of a devastating recent poll that found that only 27 percent of registered voters view the Democrat Party positively.

Later in the segment, Stewart also mocked Schumer for having recently revealed how he likes to talk to Republicans at the gym.
“I talk to them. One of the places is in the gym,” Schumer said. “When you’re on that bike in your shorts, panting away next to a Republican, a lot of the inhibitions come off.”
Stewart was not impressed.
“That’s your f–king plan?” he asked incredulously. “‘I’m gonna dangle my balls out of my shorts at the gym. Oh, you know, they’re gonna lose all their inhibitions on the equipment.’ ‘You know actually, Chuck, I would like to work with you on Medicaid reform, and also, I never told anybody this, but I once jerked a guy off in a park.'”
“In the gym, they’re only being agreeable with you because they want you to leave them alone! But I have to tell you something, pedaling really hard and not going anywhere is a great metaphor for the Democratic Party right now,” he added.
He went on to accuse Schumer of believing in a “persistent fiction.”
“There is a persistent fiction within the Democratic Party that if they just hang out with Republicans in the gym, or wait out Trump’s popularity, or give them concessions on a continuing resolution they said would harm the country, that Republicans will finally see the light,” he said.
All this has some Democrats now pining for a new leader in the Senate:
Even if you accept the following premises:
1) Schumer knew Ds didn’t have the votes to block & stepped in to take the heat
2) A shutdown would’ve been more harmful to the country
3) Swing voters won’t remember this in 2026
I *still* think it’s time to change over leadership

And indeed, there’s even an effort now to persuade Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to run a primary challenge against Schumer.
