White House says it’s worried about crime after agents open fire

Secret Service agents protecting President Joe Biden’s granddaughter opened fire on Monday — and missed — after three people tried to break into an unmarked Secret Service vehicle in the Georgetown neighborhood where Naomi Biden lives.

Not only did the agents not strike any of the suspects, but all three got away clean, according to the Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

In commenting on the incident, the White House argued that it is concerned about crime in the nation’s capital and in other U.S. cities while citing President Biden’s American Rescue Plan, which had funding for local, state, and federal police, to claim Republicans haven’t acted on reducing crime, The Hill reported.

“They use this as a political weapon, as a political talking point while the president has taken action to make sure our communities are safer. Are we concerned? Obviously,” said White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. “Obviously we want to make sure Americans and their families feel safe not just here in D.C. but across communities. But we can’t do this alone.”

“We’ve been very serious on dealing with the crime that we have seen just across the country and we’d love to work with Republicans on this, they have not been serious on this,” she added.

Of course, Jean-Pierre’s remarks are not consistent with the legion of Soros-backed local Democratic prosecutors around the country who in the name of equity all but refuse to prosecute many crimes, seek to reduce charges whenever possible, and often require no bail whatsoever before releasing suspects back onto the streets.

When asked how concerned Biden is about incidents like the one involving his granddaughter, KJP replied, “We are definitely concerned about what we are seeing and not just here, across the country obviously.”

The expression of concern appears to be an admission that crime is indeed a problem.

According to the Associated Press, there has been “a significant rise in the number of carjackings and car thefts” in DC this year.

“Police have reported more than 750 carjackings this year and more than 6,000 reports of stolen vehicles in the district. U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar of Texas was carjacked near the Capitol last month by three armed assailants, who stole his car but didn’t physically harm him,” the news agency reported.

Violent crime in Washington is also up more than 40% compared with last year, with the AP noting that U.S. Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN) “was assaulted in her apartment building, suffering bruises while escaping serious injury.”
