Winsome Sears on targeting of black conservatives: ‘Slaves didn’t die in the fields to be beholden to Dems’

When Winsome Sears was elected as Virginia’s first black female lieutenant governor, she captured the hearts of at least half of America — not because she ticked any boxes or smashed any ceilings, but because of her relatable sense of humor and sage takes on the problems the citizens of her state and those across the nation. She is at once fearless and approachable, formidable and funny, and above all, she is someone who loves her country.

And for her convictions, Sears and black conservatives like her have become the targets of racial attacks from the “tolerant” left, who demand that black Americans toe their party line, no matter how destructive that line may be.

In an insightful interview with the New York Post’s Cal Thomas, Sears, in her characteristically “winsome” manner, explains why Democrats dislike free-thinking black Americans like herself.

“In order for [Democrats] to continue to win,” she told Thomas, “they need to get 80 to 90% of the black vote. That’s why they are so full of hatred when conservatives like me, or libertarians, don’t think the way they do. . . . We don’t really care.”

“The slaves did not die in the fields to be beholden to the Democrat Party,” she added. “They wanted their freedom . . . their families to be reunited . . . and their children to get a good education.”

For Sears, the fact that “the Democratic Party became synonymous with black people” is mystifying.

“[Democrats] were the ones who were keeping us from achieving,” she stated. “Then there’s this other thing that is happening with black women not having their babies. And they call me a white supremacist for saying we want more black babies. Democrats have to make up their minds.”

In stark contrast, under former President Donald Trump, “black entrepreneurship increased to about 400% of where it had been,” Sears said, explaining why Trump took more of the black vote in 2020 than he did in 2016.

He also funded Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

“He forgave $360 million in debt they owed since [Hurricane] Katrina days,” Sears reminded readers.

As for whether she would vote for Trump should he choose — and it seems almost certain that he will — to run again in 2024, Sears isn’t ready to commit.

“I’m going to hold my fire,” she told Thomas. “I want to see what he says, what he does and who else is out there.”

Meanwhile, as President Biden, who is known for such infamous claims such as “you ain’t black” if you don’t vote for him, commemorated “Slave Remembrance Day” last Saturday.

Sears was not impressed.

“If you want to live in the past, go ahead,” she said, “just don’t drag me back with you.”

The Jamaican-born former Marine also spoke about what many are calling “Christian nationalism.”

“I think what we have to be careful about as Christians is that no one is on the throne except Christ. . . . We know that God can use anyone,” she said. “He even used a donkey to speak to Balaam [an Old Testament story] to tell him he was going down the wrong path.”

“So, if He can use a jackass,” she said, “He can use anybody.”

As for success, Sears measures it through the lens of obedience to God.

“What the world considers success, I don’t,” she said. “I have come to believe it the way the Lord defines it. Were you obedient?”

“All He wants to know is did you obey me?” she added.

Still, she does take some well-deserved satisfaction in all that she has achieved since landing in America (her father, she said, had just $1.75 in his pocket when he arrived).

“Winsome wasn’t born here,” she said. “This is not her country, not her culture, and yet here she is — second in command in the former capital of the confederacy. The KKK must be turning over in their graves.”
