Yoga teacher on the lam after allegedly killing female cyclist who may have been involved in love triangle

Police are reportedly on the hunt for a woman, Kaitlin Armstrong, who allegedly murdered an up-and-coming professional cyclist after she discovered that the cyclist had been and may have still been romantically involved with her boyfriend.

Included among the evidence against Armstrong, who is described as a yoga teacher and fellow cyclist, is surveillance footage allegedly showing her driving past the Austin “apartment” where the cyclist had been staying. The “apartment” was apparently a part of a close, personal friend’s home.

The cyclist, Anna Moriah Wilson, was found dead in the “apartment” by the close, personal friend on the night of Wednesday, May 11th, as reported by The Boston Globe.

“[T]he friend told investigators she had picked up Wilson, a Vermont native, from the airport May 10, and that Wilson was in town to compete in a race May 14 in the Dallas area. The friend … indicated she left her apartment around 5:30 p.m. on May 11 and later received a text from Wilson who said she was meeting a male friend for a swim,” according to the Globe.

The male friend, fellow cyclist Colin Strickland, was reportedly Armstrong’s boyfriend. He is not considered a suspect in Wilson’s murder.

When the close, personal friend returned to the “apartment” later that evening, she “saw Wilson lying on the bathroom floor ‘covered in blood,'” the Globe reported, citing an affidavit which also noted that the victim had been shot multiple times with a 9mm handgun.

It took six days of investigating, but authorities issued a homicide warrant for Armstrong’s arrest this past Tuesday.

According to the arrest warrant, “Strickland told police he had been in a relationship with Armstrong for about three years. During a break in their relationship, he said he met and began dating Wilson,” as reported by Austin station KXAN.

After their dating ended, they remained friends.

Meanwhile, Strickland and Armstrong rekindled their romance and were reportedly living together at the time of Wilson’s murder.

What happened next may explain everything: “Strickland lied to Armstrong about his whereabouts on Wednesday, telling her he went to drop flowers off for someone, and that his phone had died,” according to KXAN.

Instead, he went swimming with Wilson, a woman whom Armstrong allegedly loathed.

“[A]n anonymous friend reported that they were with Armstrong in January when Armstrong learned Strickland was allegedly having a romantic relationship with Wilson. Police say the friend remembered Armstrong ‘became furious and was shaking in anger,’ and that ‘Armstrong was so angry Armstrong wanted to kill Wilson,'” KXAN notes.

But there’s more. After examining Wilson’s text messages, investigators discovered that she’d thought she was still romantically involved with Strickland, suggesting that either he’d been leading her on or effectively having an affair.

In a statement released this week, Strickland for his part claimed that his relationship with Wilson had been “platonic and professional,” save for a “brief” romantic relationship that they had in late October and early November.

The statement wasn’t well-received.

Dovetailing back to Armstrong, the evidence against her includes surveillance footage of her allegedly driving past the East Austin home where Wilson’s temporary “apartment” was located.

“According to the affidavit, surveillance video showed a dark SUV appear to pull up to the house one minute after [Wilson] had returned from swimming with Strickland. Police said the vehicle had a bicycle rack and a luggage rack, and that Armstrong drove a 2012 Jeep Cherokee that day that matches the vehicle on the video,” according to the Austin American-Statesman.

As of Saturday afternoon, Armstrong remained on the run.
