‘You sassed your boss’: Babylon Bee writer drops F-bomb on DeSantis campaign – gets fired on Twitter

A pro-Trump employee of the Babylon Bee, a satirical news site, was fired on Twitter this Friday after he talked trash to a senior member of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ 2024 presidential campaign.

At 5:20 pm that evening, then-Bee employee Gavin Mario Wax tweeted, “Hey @ChristinaPushaw what’s your f–king problem?”

Pushaw, formerly the governor’s spokesperson, is a senior member of his campaign. It’s not entirely clear why he was upset with her.

Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon did not appreciate this tweet.

“What’s yours? Tweeting like this with the Bee in your bio doesn’t work for me,” he tweeted back at Wax slightly later that evening.

But instead of backtracking, Wax chose to fight back.

“Being accused of things that are false (and criminal) doesn’t work for me,” he tweeted.

It’s not clear what he was referring to.

Unfortunately, that was the last straw for Dillon.

“You can take the Bee out of your bio now,” he replied.

The abrupt decision by Dillon prompted both praise and criticism from people, depending on whether they support former President Donald Trump or DeSantis.

Jenna Ellis, who was formerly a Trump lawyer but now appears to be supporting DeSantis, tweeted that Dillon’s tough response was how “a real man responds.”

She also tied Wax’s firing to Trump, writing that it was part of the meltdown that “Team Trump” has experienced ever since DeSantis announced his candidacy.

Dillon meanwhile was pummeled with criticism from Trump supporters who argued that his firing of Wax was arbitrary, capricious, and “wrong.”

“Oh no, he said the word F–k. This reads like a headline to a Babylon Bee parody. Seriously, you fired him over saying f–k????” one critic tweeted.

“I get the language issue, but to do this publicly is wrong. Like Matthew 18:15-16 wrong,” another added.

After the dust had settled, Wax himself responded by accusing Dillon and his allies of perpetrating “right wing cancel culture.”

“It I lose my job for defending the greatest President of my generation and for defending myself then so be it I don’t cave to leftwing cancel culture and I won’t cave to right wing cancel culture from @ChristinaPushaw @JennaEllisEsq and @davereaboi,” he tweeted.

This time DeSantis supporters were quick to pounce.

“You mistake fiduciary responsibility to your employer with cancel culture,” Ellis tweeted.

“No, you lost your job at the Christian humor site by displaying repeated, aggressive, non-Christian behavior towards a woman. That’s not ‘defending’ anyone and the greatest POTUS of the last 100 years is Ronald Reagan,” Chris Loesch added.

Loesch is the husband of former National Rifle Association spokesperson Dana Loesch.
