Al Sharpton says black DA indicting white Trump is ‘spiritual payback’

Notorious racial grievance monger Al Sharpton believes that former President Donald Trump’s indictment and arrest are a form of “spiritual” payback.

Sharpton expressed this vindictive view while speaking at a New York University forum sometime before Trump’s arraignment on Tuesday, according to The Washington Times.

“I’m always looking for the spiritual interpretation of something. And I think it’s very ironic that on … the 55th anniversary of Dr. King’s assassination, that the president that tried to turn back a lot of what King did is going to be arraigned in Manhattan Supreme Court by a Black DA,” he said.

“I’m thinking of Dr. King as the first Black Manhattan DA will deliver us justice and bring criminal charges against President Trump,” he added.

His remarks reportedly prompted laughter and applause from what was evidently an audience full of sycophants.

On social media, on the other hand, Sharpton’s remarks provoked sharp rebuttals, with critics wondering what the hell he was talking about.

The critics had a point.

According to a fact-check from D.C. station WUSA, “Trump … spent more than any other president on HBCUs,” which is short for historically black colleges and universities.

“We went straight to the Department of Education [for the fact-check], and according to their records, Trump gave the most to historically black institutions for both undergraduate and graduate studies. Obama held that record back in 2010. But in 2018, Trump appropriated more than three hundred and sixty million dollars–thirty two million more than Obama,” the station reported in 2018.

The former president also created opportunity zones in predominantly black neighborhoods — a move which wound up earning him a bevy of praise from even Democrats like then-Georgia state Rep. Vernon Jones.

“Four years ago he talked about what he wanted to do for the black community and he brought about results. Opportunity zone districts, support of historically black colleges, and prison reform with the First Step Act,” he said at the time to Fox News.

“President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden did not have a plan for African-Americans. President Obama meant a lot to Black people but he didn’t do anything for Black people. And certainly Joe Biden followed suit. But this president is back again, laying out his future [plans] on how he is going to assist to lift the Black community out of dark conditions such as school choice,” he added.

Critics also zeroed in on Sharpton’s past relationship with Trump and wondered what changed.

So in the face of all this, it becomes increasingly unclear how Trump had “tried to turn back a lot of what King did.” If anything, it seems Trump tried to uphold King’s teachings, particularly the one about judging people by their character, not the color of their skin.

For example, when several government agencies started promoting racial essentialism — a sick, twisted ideology that says judgments should be made based on race — to their employees, Trump promptly nipped it in the bud.

Conversely, the moment current President Joe Biden, a Democrat, took office, he reinstituted racial essentialism. Yet despite Trump being more in line with King’s teachings than Biden, Sharpton supported the latter in the 2020 race. Go figure.

Dovetailing back to Sharpton’s remarks, Trump’s spokesperson Steven Cheung responded to them by saying the following to the Times: “Mr. Sharpton should get his own house in order before talking about something he has no clue about.”

Speaking of which, one final set of critics wondered when Sharpton will be made to face his own spiritual payback.
