Alina Habba says ‘grandstanding’ Dem mayor chose to ‘disregard the law,’ arrest merited

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was among the Democrats arrested during Friday’s storming of a New Jersey ICE detention facility, an incident that grabbed national headlines and underscored the party’s support of violent illegal alien criminals.

Baraka was led off in cuffs after the group, which included lawmakers from the U.S. House of Representatives, forced their way inside the gates at Delaney Hall as a bus with detainees was passing through, conduct that is not only illegal but unbecoming for elected officials.

After the arrest, interim U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey Alina Habba emphasized that “no one is above the law” and said that the treatment of the mayor was merited after he ignored several warnings before he was taken into custody.

“The Mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, committed trespass and ignored multiple warnings from Homeland Security Investigations to remove himself from the ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey this afternoon. He has willingly chosen to disregard the law. That will not stand in this state. He has been taken into custody. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW,” Habba wrote in a post to X.

Fox News reporter Bill Melugin noted that unlike members of Congress who are allowed to visit a federal facility, the left-wing mayor did not have permission.

Habba also called into Fox News during Friday’s edition of “The Story” with Martha MacCallum, explaining what went down that resulted in Baraka’s arrest for the “grandstanding” stunt, rejecting the claims by the Democrat House members that the mayor was not trespassing and that the lawmakers were “intimidated” by federal personnel.

“I’m gonna tell the truth and correct them,” the acting U.S. attorney said. “Congresspeople have the right to investigate, and we allowed them in, number one. Number two, the mayor was actually inside the facility, was warned, was asked to leave several times, more than once, refused to leave, was put under arrest inside the facility, walked out when he was told he was under arrest, and then was cuffed. That is what happened.”

“It’s called grandstanding, unfortunately,” Habba told MacCallum. “And when you break the law, there’s no grandstanding that will help you. Period, the end.”

After he was released, Baraka turned to his friends in the media as he was given airtime on Friday to portray himself as a victim, telling MSNBC’s Jen Psaki that his rights were violated and claiming he was targeted.

Baraka also rejected Habba’s explanation of what happened during an appearance on CNN with anchor Kaitlan Collins, who had his back.

“Well, absolutely not. I mean, the reality is Alina Habba wasn’t there,” he said, adding. “She doesn’t know what happened. Clearly, that is not the context of what happened.”

The mayor was joined at the facility by Garden State Democratic Reps. Bonnie Watson Coleman, LaMonica McIver and Bob Menendez Jr, son of corrupt former senator Bob Menendez who was recently convicted on federal corruption charges for taking bribes.

The incident at Delaney Hall is another example of elected Democrats crossing the line by whipping up the passions of a mob to defend criminals, something that is becoming more commonplace, with it likely only a matter of time until someone gets hurt.
