‘An actual threat to democracy’: Top Dem says Congress will disqualify Trump if elected in unearthed video

A video of Rep. Jamie Raskin raised eyebrows when it surfaced Monday as it appeared he suggested former President Trump could be “disqualified” on January 6, 2025, if he is elected in November.

The Maryland Democrat was seen in a video from a Feb. 17 panel at a bookstore in Washington, D.C. as he discussed voter rights and using the Fourteenth Amendment to ensure Trump never takes office even if he is re-elected by the American people in November.

Raskin’s comments seem to have been made ahead of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on Trump’s immunity, as the Democrat and others in his party disparaged conservative Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito on the high court.

“What can be put into the Constitution can slip away from you very quickly, and the greatest example going on right now before our very eyes is Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment, which they’re just disappearing with a magic wand as if it doesn’t exist, even though it couldn’t be clearer what it’s stating,” Raskin is heard saying in the video footage.

“And so, they want to kick it to Congress so it’s going to be up to us on January 6th, 2025, to tell the rampaging Trump mobs that he’s disqualified, and then we need bodyguards for everybody and civil conditions, all because the nine justices, not all of them, these justices who have not many cases to look at every year, not that much work to do, a huge staff, great protection, simply do not want to do their job and interpret what the great Fourteenth Amendment means,” the congressman continued.

The Supreme Court ended up ruling against the State of Colorado as it tried to use the Fourteenth Amendment to disqualify Trump from Colorado’s presidential primary ballot.

“The Constitution makes Congress, rather than the States, responsible for enforcing Section 3 against federal officeholders and candidates,” the high court decided in its March 4 decision.

Raskin’s controversial remarks resurfaced and took social media by storm.

“Even if voters unquestionably elect Donald Trump as President, no matter the margin, and even if the election is universally accepted as free and fair, top Democrats are calling on Congress to block certification of the results, and prep for civil war,” former Congressman Lee Zeldin wrote on X.

“I believe this is called a criminal conspiracy to commit election interference,” noted senior Trump adviser Stephen Miller.

Billionaire X owner Elon Musk concluded, “That’s a crazy thing for him to say.”

“This is what an actual threat to Democracy looks like,” Donald Trump Jr. posted.

“I thought the Left was the party of ‘protecting democracy,'” Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) wrote on X.

“These arrogant elitist globalists hate the half of America that still loves America,” former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee wrote.
