Biden mocked for reading ‘End of Quote’ from teleprompter during live address

Another day, another gaffe in the world of President Joe Biden.

The leader of the free world once again sparked social media attention with his remarks Friday. But it wasn’t his oratory skills that set off the commentary, it was his apparent robotic reading from a teleprompter that included stage directions which he read out loud.

Acting on the reversal of Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court last month, the president moved to issue an executive order Friday aimed at providing some protections for women seeking abortions. He delivered his remarks on the signing of the order with Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra flanking him on either side.

The two appeared to keep a straight face as Biden read full speed ahead, unaware that he included stage directions out loud.

“It is noteworthy that the percentage of women who registered to vote and cast a ballot is consistently higher than the percentage of the men who do so,” he read, adding “End of quote.”

Without much pause, he went on to read the next direction, “Repeat the line,” which he did before continuing to read the speech, unaware that anything was amiss. Some listeners suggested the president had said, “let me repeat the line,” but the moment was still cringey.

The mockery was palpable on Twitter where journalists, lawmakers and even billionaire Elon Musk reacted.

“Whoever controls the teleprompter is the real President!,” the Tesla CEO tweeted, in a reference to the “Anchorman.”

“Please run for re-election,” Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla. tweeted.

Others also made references to the “Anchorman” movie and Will Ferrell’s character, Ron Burgundy.
