Legendary comedian Bill Murray has called famed Watergate reporter Bob Woodward’s credibility into question.
Appearing on Joe Rogan’s podcast this week, he said he grew concerned about Woodward’s credibility after reading the so-called journalist’s biographical book about deceased comedian Jim Belushi, with whom Murray had been friends for years prior to his 1982 drug overdose death.
Murray was so shocked at reading Woodward’s book about Belushi that he now questions the premise of Watergate. Recall that Woodward and fellow reporter Carl Bernstein were responsible for the reporting that led to former President Richard Nixon’s downfall.

Bill Murray on Bob Woodward, Richard Nixon and John Belushi:
“When I read ‘Wired’ by Bob Woodward about John Belushi, I read like five pages of ‘Wired’ and I went, oh my God, they framed Nixon. If he did this to Belushi, what he did to Nixon is probably soiled for me too.”

“I read like five pages of ‘Wired,’ and I went, ‘Oh my God. They framed Nixon,'” Murray said, referencing the book about Belushi.
“If this is what he writes about my friend that I’ve known, you know, for half of my adult life, which is completely inaccurate, talking to like, the people of the outer, outer circle, getting the story – what the hell did that could they have done to Nixon?” he added. “I just felt like if he did this to my friend like this, and I acknowledge I only read five pages, but the five pages I read made me want to set fire to the whole thing.”
“I went, ‘If he did this to Belushi, what he did in Nixon’s is probably soiled for me, too.’ I can’t, I can’t take it. And I know you say, well, ‘You could have two sources and everything like that,’ but the two sources that he had, if he had them for the ‘Wired’ book, were so far outside the inner circle that it was, it was criminal,” he added.
Murray went on to repeatedly praise Belushi for his work and kindness.
“Murray also said in the interview that he believed that John Belushi was the most famous person to ever come from Wheaton, Illinois, and that Woodward was the third,” according to The Independent.
“He spoke of Belushi’s generosity in convincing so many of his fellow comedians from Illinois to come and join him in New York, allowing them to sleep on his couch for extended periods. Murray also credited Belushi with launching a blue revival which in turn led to the emergence of the House of Blue franchise concert venues,” the reporting continues.

As for Woodward, he came into prominence in the early 1970s with his work for the Washington Post covering the Watergate scandal via a mysterious source known only as “Deep Throat.”
But while Woodward has received widespread praise for his work exposing Nixon, he still remains a controversial figure because of his often outlandish political commentary. In October, for example, he called for then-President Joe Biden to receive a Nobel Peace Prize for his handling of the disastrous Ukraine-Russia war.
Appearing on CNN, he said Biden deserved praise for the “very sensible things in the interest of this country” that he’d allegedly done during the war in Ukraine, such as “not sending U.S. ground troops” overseas.
“Someday he may get the Nobel Peace Prize for that, because very, very important, so we don’t have another Vietnam,” Woodward added. “Biden’s old enough to remember Vietnam. He’s someone who, going back to the time he was vice president, would fight Obama and say, no, let’s not send 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan.”
“There is sometimes a feeling in the presidency that troops are a bandage. Somebody like Biden who has seen it, it goes astray, and you can still protect the national security mission of the country by not sending the U.S. troops,” he continued.

His claim prompted quite a bit of mockery and ridicule for various reasons, including the obvious fact that the Ukraine-Russia war likely wouldn’t have even erupted had current President Donald Trump still been in office versus weak-kneed Biden.
Critics were also annoyed by Woodward’s unwillingness to acknowledge all the wrong things that Biden had done as president.
